carpet anemone ? and alge on rock?

hello all,
I have recently purchased a carpet anenome about 2 weeks ago. It seems to be happy and opening up most of the time. it hasnt eaten any shrimp yet that we feed the fish. Today my husband came home and saw like little pieces of something on it and when i got home it was in its mouth. Also a emrald crab was dead right next to it. Can anyone tell me what this is and if its a problem or not. thanks also there has been some like slime web stuff growning on some of my rock . does anyone know about this as well. sorry im new to the hobby and do not know much yet. im learning as i go.

Pics 1 and 2 look like anemone poop to me. I don't do anemones, so I could be wrong, but that's my best guess.
Pic 3 is an asterina starfish. Again, controversial. If it were my tank, it would be flushed.
Pic 4 I can't quite make out. I'm assuming the slime you were talking about on a rock. May need a koralia or other powerhead pointed at it. Maybe it's a dead spot?

i saw your other post about your anemone dying. there were way to many replies to respond so ill just ask on here. how old os your tank, i think i read your tank was pretty new, carpet anemones are not very hardy so it could be that your tank just isnt ready. i find that usually after 6 months the tank is established (give or take a moth or so) for an anemone. also 6 months gives you a good learning period. get the basics of keep the tank running nicely and smoothly, then venture out into the harder stuff

another issue. you posted all your parm. except for one that i have seen swing wildly here recently in tanks... temp! could also be why your clowns got ich. any more than a 2 degree swing can cause issues. our body cant handle when our temp gets off, nether can your tank

dont do water changes until your am and ni have cycled out. doing them will just keep them up. they need time on there own to cycle out.

My tank is just 2 mounths old. But I added about 30 more lbs of live rock 2 weeks ago. Then everything died. But i finally found a good fish store in edmond and the owner was soooo helpful. I took my water up there yesterday afternoon and she tested it and it was
1.030 and my hydrometer said it was 1.024 which is crazy. I took the hydrometer out and messed with it to make sure it wasnt stuck and cleaned it and still it said 24 so this may have been my problem. and the test results she got were pretty good then when i tested when i got home it was way off hers. I never test good. I use test strips and the color is hard to tell which one it is. Even when i use the liquid testers. I got some rodi water and will start using that every week. I feel so much beter knowing i can go to her and ask questions once a week when i get my water and have her check it instead of me trying to check it and getting bad readings.

Dear falonchistie ; For an anenome to survive your tank must be aged atleast 6 months or better one year before you add a delicate anenome. When you added more live rock your tank had another cycle. This is why you must read before and learn all you can before you jump in because it will be your fish and and corals that will suffer . It is up to you to learn as much as you can before making any additions to your set-up. I swould go to the library and take out some saltwater aquarium books read allthe stickys on THIS SITE ,REEFLAND,************ AND ANY OTHER SITES YOU CAM FIND. Please learn from other hobbyists so your will not suffer anymore losses.

Yeah i totally agree with you. I had been reading and reading and reading. I read so much everyday but i still feel like i dont know anything. but besides that. I had not read up on anenomes much. what i had read was that you could not have one in a reef and i was dissapointed in that but when i went to petco in edmond and purchased my 2 clowns they said i should get the carpet anenome and that it would be fine to add so i got it. I was telling my husband last night that we will always go to one lfs and talk to the same people and go look to see what we like but never buy right then. i will alway see what i like then come home and research it. It was just so hard at first b/c the pet stores were telling me that it was okay. So now i have found a good one i trust and an on the right path. I wish i had not had my losses that i had but i learned my lesson and im sure i have many more to come that i will learn what not to do. Thanks for the advice its greatly appriciated. hey i wanted to ask more questions on here but im new to the forum thing and should i just post threads or ask questions in other threads already started? if you read above my hydrometer is not working and its brand new. Are there other ways to test for salinity and what do you use that works good?

You'll need to pick up a "refractometer" to measure your salinity. Also as far as test kits go, I highly recommend test kits from Salifert, and many other members of the club will as well. I have a hard time comparing colors to charts and such, so the Salifert kits are a life saver to possible color blind people like me.
