hobogato posted his purple crispa. That is the anemone I was talking about.

Wicked, are you talking about this post?

here it was at its best. about a week ago, it started moving around and could find a place it liked. a couple of days later it started to inflate and deflate and eventually it died.

They do look similar......

Yes, that is the post I was talking about. This anemone so confused me. I thought it looked like a gigantea. Then when I looked at its foot, it was clearly a sebae. I also asked phender to be sure what kind of sebae it is and he said H.Crispa.

Well, here is a photo of it today....

It seems to be spreading out and growing a bit now. I've never seen it shrink and it eats well.

It still is a very nice and colorful crispa or malu Doni even if it is still recovering. I'm just waiting for more pictures of how its tentacles expand to see if they're sharp or stubby. Its definitely either a crispa or a malu from these pics and I'm leaning toward crispa with the last pic there.

Doni, Have you keep crispa's before or just carpets?

Thanks Jonny.
No, I've only had BTA's and carpets. Never a crispa. I bought it online and it was labeled 'baby carpet' so that is what I thought it was...

I will continue to post photos of it as it matures.

An updated pic...

I've had it now for 2 months and 2 days.
I have never seen it deflate and it grabs and eats food VERY fast.

I will try to get an updated photo of it now that it has been a few months. It has grown a lot already!

It is a H. crispa and not a H. malu. Here is a picture of a H. malu. Notice the lacy semi transparent marking on the tentacles and the circular lines. Also the entacles on the edges are two times as long as the tentacles in the middle. My perple H. malu also have similar marking just not as easy to show in pictures

Beautiful anemones Minh and Marc!

I think I'll just call it a Heteractis sp.
:)

Maybe we'll be able to tell which it is when it grows larger?

I decided to move it from my 120 gallon to my 60 gallon cube and let it be the center piece.
The clownfish love it!

No matter what you call it, it's simply amazing!

I see crispa and malu traits in this anemone. These anemones have overlapping natural distributions, they often live in similar habitats, and they seem to be closely related. We can't rule out the possibility of hybridization.

If it has a LARGE pedal disk with thick leathery tissue I would call it crispa. If not, I'd call it malu.

Thanks!

Elegance coral - It has very thick tissue. When I moved it, I realized how much thicker it was than the usual BTA or carpet anemone is.
I can't say I noticed the pedal disk though... I do not recall how it was shaped.

It has grown a LOT since I got it several months ago.
