Just bought this beautiful carpet anemone but the worker at the lfs nor myself know what type it is. I just want to make sure I take the best possible care of it so knowing the type will help me. Also on the underside of the nem there is purple dots if that helps.

Also how long should I wait before feeding? I've read a week or two. Better question is does it need to be fed fequently or like my bta is lighting enough?

As others have said, it's S. gigantea. If you plan to pick it up, have Cipro on hand and a QT tank ready (see sticky at top of the forum).

You don't need to feed it if you don't want to (like your BTA). If you want it to grow, you can feed it weekly. I wouldn't feed it for the first few weeks so that it can acclimate.

Did you buy that nem at Maximum Reef in Yonkers? Looks identical to one they had, though they had it listed as a Haddon's I think. Very nice.

Size does not mater. I prefer smaller size initially. They tolerate shipping much better.
My start out 4 inches after 1 year it is 16 inches plus. I really did not feed it that much. Anemone are almost all water. Feed them and they exploded.

I find that they like light but like to hide their foot. Unlike Magnifica, my Gigantea's do not craw to the top but attach to the side or under the rock and reach around and expose to light.

Watch the fish closely. New Gigantea often weak (?sick) and not able to close their mouth fully. When this is the case, clowns often dig in and eat the inner of an anemone and kill it. So if the clown start to dig into the anemone, you better remove the clowns and consider treatment for the anemone.
Good looking anemone. If I was to get a Gigantea that look somewhat like that, it will cost me more than 200-300 dollars. You are one lucky reefer. Now you just have to keep him alive. Good luck.
