Carpet Anemone Questions

I hope he does well too - I am pretty confident in my ability to keep nems alive and well.

He has already started cruising around - into an even less dangerous area (further my corals) probably because of the flow so, as long as he doesn't move towards them I am good

Big Al's in Oakville Ontario is where I got the anemone. I also traded my pair of rainbow bubbles (rose bubble color variant) there.

right on, guess i should pop in there more often ( i'm in Burlington ). given their track record with nems, you got a great nem and probably saved him.

That nem has actually been at that location for months. I don't know what sort of reputation they are supposed to have with anemone's, but I get most of my SPS and other corals/clams from their as well. They actually have better pricing then ORG on a lot of things.

I picked up an A. Lordhowensis (30 polyps) from BA's, Nice blue and red, for $60. Can't go wrong there! They also had a lot of nice Lobos and Platys for $40 or so.

As long as the livestock doesn't sit their forever - you can get some really awesome pieces through them. Just ask when they are supposed to get the next coral/invert shipment and get there as soon after it comes in as possible.

just to clarify, i wasn't bashing BA's oakville, i shop at both stores and have a good relationship with both. i've just always noticed their nems are usually melting ( BTA's and LTA's ), was he in with the livestock or one of the displays?? the only reason i am asking is i can't believe walked right past it. i stop in both store regularly just to kill time

Ok, the invert wall where they keep the shrimp and anemones and such, under the soft coral tanks. The very last tank to the far right, at the very bottom. He was in with a green Haddoni and some LTA's.

I didn't notice him until I started anemone shopping.

Aright - quick update on the pizza nem.

It moved to an area between the rocks where there is a large opening to allow light to get to it. It still looks the same as it does in those pictures I posted, however it isn't sticky to the touch right now.

I am not sure what that means for a carpet - I doubt it is a good thing, but I figured I would try feeding it anyways.

Other then the food not sticking to the nem, it cupped around it and brought it's mouth over to my fingers (I was still holding the food at this point) and I let go and it was able to hold on to it. So at least I know it is eating.

Can anyone give me some insight into it's lack of stickiness?

I can only speak of my experiences with may Haddonis.

It seems that they can almost turn off the stickiness. I have noticed that when I was re-doing one tank, and then moving a Haddoni from one tank to another that they both became completely un-sticky. A couple of days later, all was back to normal.

For a new anemone I wouldn't be worried too much, sure would prefer them to be sticky, but this isn't uncommon for newly introduced ones. IMO, the mouth being closed it more important.

Well that is good news then. I figured the fact that it took food was a good sign as well.

At no point so far, has it gaped or had a loose mouth. I know that is a great sign. Hopefully he comes out of the rocks a bit more, I will take a pic of where he migrated to and post it later tonight when I get home from work.

I forgot to upload the photos from last night to photobucket... So I will have to do that later.

I fed him again last night - still not sticky, but eats like a champ.
I won't feed him again until mid next week.
