Carpet Anenome Acting Weird..

My parents have a 90g SW reef tank that has been up and running for 4 years now. In the first year that their tank was set up, they added a gorgeous green carpet anenome. When they got it, it was about the size of a baseball.. now, 3 1/2 years later its the size of a basket ball, sometimes bigger. It gets fed squid, krill, or silversides twice a month, plus whatever the clownfish feed it. It houses a pair of Percula Clowns that lay eggs behind the anenome every three weeks.

Since they have had it, it has never moved. Never had a problem w/ it . When I was over at their house last week, the anenome started acting very strange. It rose almost to the top of the tank, (w/ it's base still on the ground) and erupted like a volcano, spitting up it's previous week's food all over the tank, making the tank turn murky white. Since then, it's only done it one other time, so a total of two times.

All other corals are fine, fish are fine.. Tank parameters are all normal.

Would there be any reason for the anenome to act this way??

I agree...sounds like a male fertilizing the water. Does it look almost like "smoke" coming from the anems mouth?

Yes, it does actually!! It turns the whole tank smoky looking!

Sounds like it might be time to find a nice female carpet anem....not that I have the slightest idea how to tell a male from a female until it starts doing what yours is doing...:o)

lol I don't either.. heck I didn't even know that they could blast out sperm.. You should have seen the look on my parents face when I told them their anenome was just horney... :D
