Cats!

I have a camera setup on my tank and I've noticed that my cat spends hours watching the aquarium all day. By far her favorite is the diamond goby... no idea why! Anyways, she does try to bat at the fish which will sometimes send them darting into hiding. Does anyone see any long term negative effects from this? Like stress on the fish? None of them are going into hiding or anything.

Good training for the cat. During the fall when the mice come in, she will be highly adept at stalking.

One of my cats does this (the other isn't remotely interested in them), the fish don't even care anymore - I could swear some actually taunt the cat!

Our cat periodically leaps from the ground in an attempt to catch a fish swimming by, it's pretty awesome.

My 90 lb german shepherd does that to try and catch me when I am getting her a treat. My 140 lb german shepherd, fortunately can not do that. :hmm4:

had a cat that would sit on top of the lights for warmth and would stick her paw in the tank when a fish came to check her out...

One of our cats really really wanted our lineatus wrasse and would jump at the tank all day. When we evicted the line due to aggression the jumpin pretty much stopped. We have it in video and it is pretty funny to watch. One if the reasons we bought the tank we did is because the cat doin the jumping was a 20 pound savannah. His two brothers are Savannah's as well so we needed the stability.

I have a covered QT tank (125g) on the floor - no stand, haha. My cats are drawn to the tank like a bug to a bug zapper - playing and sleeping next to it. As with the OP's cat, mine LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Diamond Goby pair. They don't seem too interested in the other fish. The cats keep a good eye on both gobies and bat like there's no tomorrow at them. Then, they get a little crazy and run around the tank. All of the fish, including the Rabbitfish, aren't even fazed by the cats anymore. So, I just let the cats have their fun since they're not hurting anything. It's a lot of fun to watch.

Our cats don't care about my aquarium, but they love to sit on the lights of my son's FW aquarium. I guess my Radions aren't warm enough to warrant their attention. :D

Your cats will eventually lose interest and stop that behavior. I have a ledge built on my stand for easy cleaning (30" deep) which is just perfect for my cats to lay on and watch/ swat at my fish. It's also great for setting your beer on! Long story short your fish will learn that he cats can't hurt them and if they are like mine, start to play with the cats. It took about 6 months for the cats to lose interest in the fish. I also have a 29 QT with my Desjaradini and a baby female Bellus in it and the cats sometimes pay attention to them only because my QT is setup on my kitchen counter! (The wife just loves it)
