Caulerpa overtake

im having a bit of an issue: caulerpa is trying to take over- (no, i didnt put it in there on purpose, it just kinda "grew" from within the rock) anyway- i tried a foxface- worked pretty good for awhile until he started eating my polyps. he died later on.

i recently got a yellow tang and he is not doing a thing-

what are my options? (besides taking out the rocks)

any other species of fish thatll work? this is big caulerpa- grape kind- but the bigger harder version- not the softer, darker grape.. maybe its more toxic?

Id appreciate any advice....

I don't think there are many fish that will eat it. I heard that the grape caulerpa is toxic to fish and they wont eat it but don't quote me on that.

The scribbled rabbitfish will eat it happily, starting with the grapes and working toward the stems. They are 3 inches smaller than the virgate rabbit as an adult. Mine is gentle and calm, and has never shown an illicit interest in corals. Of course, I am now buying grape caulerpa to keep him happy.

the rabbitfish *might* eat it, so *might* a yellow tang. However, caulrepa is toxic to all fish that ingest it. I had the same scourge as you and the only real way to rid yourself of it is to grab as much of it as you can in your hands and pull. repeat as necessary/.

I'm not sure you want to pull it all out at once. I did that and afterward had a terrible outbreak of Hair and Bubble Algae. Maybe just pull out a small amount at a time. I am pretty sure that is what caused the outbreak. It happened all most overnight after taking out the Caulrepa.

i wouldnt be able to pull it out all at once anyway- that'll make me curse in so many languages....

anyhoo, i guess im stuck with the grab and pull, old medieval method of harvesting- aaah nuts! i hate hate hate caulerpa!

anyway- thanks for the info guys...
