caulerpa taxifolia question

Shai Dorsai!
I read that caulerpa taxifolia will take nutrients right out of the sand bed via the rhizoid. What happens in a BB tank?

I had a patch of it go sexual. I could tell by the color of the plant that it was going to happen in the next day or so and it did. This is the second time.

I suspect the limiting factor is NO3, which is 0. I am thinking of dosing KNO3 along with Fe I am already dosing. Which brought me to the question - how does caulerpa taxifolia take up "nutrients"?

If I DID NOT want this to grow it would be growing in plague proportions but because I do want it to grow it is a battle.

Macro algae takes up nutrients thru the leaves, if we can call it that. The holdfast will not process nutrients. True marine plants (sea grasses) will assimilate thru roots and leaves.

You have figured out what your limiting nutrient is. I use calcium nitrate as a nitrogen source.
Laissez la bonne tems roulee,
Patrick
