Caulestra doesn't like high alk.

I've had a high alk issue. Am correcting it. Caulestra is really responding.

It's not fond of high nitrate, either.

I've changed salts to bust the mg (ergo the alk which is 'pinned' by it) down, and I think I may save pieces that were at death's door.

Yep. That 'un.
It's been weird. Re the bad barrel of salt, I've ruled out metals, ammonia, refractometer error, phosphate, nitrate; fish are all healthy; crabs and snails healthy; calcium ok at 420, but a real high mg (1750) and a high alk, in the 9's. Only thing even marginally out of parameters. I've never had such a puzzle. The only thing I can think is that they either left out a trace or put way too much of something in that I don't have a test for. The response to the new salt coming in was within an hour.

Weird as I've ever met in the weird stuff with my tank department.
