CB chrysopterus

Anyone have experience with this fish? I've had WC chrysopterus but that was nothing but heartache...difficult fish to say the least. Wondering if the CB chrysopterus are any more resilient. Are there any US based breeders or are they all Bali fish?

Those captive ones I believe are from Bali Aquarich. I do not know anyone who is raising them currently. I have a single wild caught one. I had two but lost one due to Brook. If you bring in or get wild ones make sure you have formalin or another method to deal with Brook. I would assume they have it and treat from day one. Awesome fish just a real pain in the butt to deal with.

Not in love with them having misbars. I'd prefer to get wild looking ones before moving on to "fancy" ones

Chrysopterus are a little more difficult than your standard clowns. The fry are very small and need a smaller rotifer than the ones that are normally cultured. That coupled with the facts that they grow very large, don't ship well, and that most marine aquarists can't tell a chysopterus from a clarkii so the market for them is small, you don't get many people taking the time to breed them more than once.

They should since most the wild caught fish suffered from brookynella, in part brought on by the stress of capture/shipping/etc. However, most of the CB chrysopterus I have seen have suffered from head deformities.

If you quarantine and treat for brook even before you see symptoms, IME, wild caught chrysopterus will do OK. I would do a formalin dip followed by a freshwater bath, followed by quarantine for 2-3 weeks.

I kept a Captive bred pair of Irian Jaya Chrysopterus from Bali Aquarich for several months and have two things to say before they went to there new home.. They were mean as can be always going for my hand and I had no health issues with them

I would extend that to all wild caught Amphiprion and Premnas.

BTW: iBluewater.com has A. chrysopterus in stock - if I had the space for them I would get a pair.
