CBB eating but getting thin.

FWIW I have not found prazipro to be particularly effective on (suspected) internal parasites - external flukes, yes, internal worms, no. I have used food soaked in metro to be much more effective on the internal buggers.

Fish are super hard to keep alive for long. My last one was eating like crazy and was fat. He randomly died one day without a mark on him...eating and looking/acting healthy means nothing with CBB's...
 
If he likes clams, maybe try feeding him a clam every day. I feed all my butterflies little neck clams on the half shell three times a week. They are pretty available where I am in southwestern Ohio. Freeze them, and then thaw them out. You can leave it in there for the day and pull out what he hasn't eaten in the evening.

If you decide you can't keep him, I may be interested. I'm about an hour north of Cinci and have a 240 butterfly/angel FOWLR i'm setting up.

I will go to the local seafood store and see what I can get. I will let you know if I get rid of him but I am on the west end of KY Some distance from you.
 
I hope he stays with you, but if it's not possible, I'm a semi local option.

Little neck clams and grated shrimp are what I use to fatten up butterflies.
 
Sorry for your loss. As some have mentioned - fish often don't eat well with prazipro. I've had luck remedying this situation by doing 50% water changes every two days. Change water...feed after a few hours...redose prazi to appropriate concentration before you go to bed.

They don't sell it anymore (that I know of) - but he most useful anti worm/parasite thing every made was a Tetra flake with metronidizole in it. Long off the market when I needed it - I I soaked spectrum pellets with metronidizole in that lab grade grade 190 proof grain liquor (which can be tricky to get). The effective dosage is a crap shoot and I can't say for sure if it helped when I used it. But it sure seemed to help.

Lot of work for fish at the CBB price point but its worth it if you want a healthy long lasting specimen no matter how much or how little it costs to acquire.
 
Interesting that the med is no longer available. All the good meds seem to be gone, you can't find fluke tabs either any more.

I imagine yours was doomed from the start due to collection and/or transportation issues.

If you change your mind in the future, the Australian CBBs tend to do very well, but they are more expensive (>$100). Mine is Australian and is around 2 years old and doing fine. Also, you could try a regular CBB from DD as they seem to have good sources and will watch the fish to make sure it is healthy before they sell it.
 
I would highly suggest a Muelleri CBB.......they are expensive but have at least a 10 year survival rate. You can go through a lot of Indo CBB in a decade+.

They adapt easier and have shorter snouts which enable them to eat larger chunks of food.
 
marginalis are pricey as well, and can be difficult to keep alive. I'd suggest doing a search on the reef fish forum to get better info.

I know a few people had failures with them, not sure if long term there is much info on them.
 
seachem makes metro in powder form. I use it to dose the water column in the QT, and I've used it as a food soak with focus (an other seachem powder used as a binder).

I find it 100x more effective than prazi and it doesn't suppress the appetite of the fish.
