CCP's 2000 gallon Deltec reef tank

This is very strange. I have a school of four blue green chromis in my 90 gallon and all of them are very healthy. I never see any fighting going on between them. The blue chromis that I have are the cheapest fish in my tank. They also have a very unique and pretty color, awesome fin structure and are very active. Can you tell I like my chromis?

I have never seen them fight myself. It's much more of a social thing where you see one separated from the group. I suppose it's possible that in a smaller tank, perhaps there's no way to be separated?

I am not sure what is going on but I know that mine always chum around in a tight little group and seperate and sleep in the rocks at night. I might just be lucky.

yeah, mine always balled up at lights out and then hunkered down for the night too. In fact they anticipated lights out and were already grouped before it actually happened.

Interesting and good to know about the Chromis. I will be going for the Anthias then. There are also more variety in colors there.

I will go for lot of smaller fishes and then have the bigger fish as contrast. We are also going to have a bunch of crustatians.

I hope to get a price/availability soon so I can start picking

:lol: no doubt. some of mine (I originally had 11) were mentally challenged. One liked to host in a clam. Another one liked to host in a hydnophora, and this last one is hanging out in a hammer coral. It's stinging him so bad that his stomach is mal-formed.

The interesting thing was that I really thought I had the culling thing licked because I had the 11 for more than a year. Then it went to 9, and then a couple months later down to 8. Thos eight hung in there for quite a while, but last fall they starting disappearing again.

I'd go for about 60 skunk cleaners to set up a massive cleaning station.

I personally believe that the chromis issue is linked to feeding habots, and that anthias may have a similar situation. Both of these fish seem to need frequent meals throughout the day in order to stay healthy and lower competition. No real proof of that as far as I know, but it is how I feel about it.

i would say a huge shoal of anthias would be awesome or maybe even smaller shoals of different anthias and an achilles tang would be a sweet addition because those colors pop on them, and if you can find one maybe even a black tang

My experience with anthias & chromis is a little different. I feed the tanks once a day in the evening, and occasionally miss a day with no bad effects on either group of fish.

I have to agree with my anthias, though the only ones I've had are lyretail. I feed my tank once, sometimes twice a day and every once in a while I skip a day as well and IMHO mine are still fat and happy with no losses since I added them. I can't make a comment of sustainability over a 1 year period as that is the longest I've had them in a tank before moving and having to sell them.

Though not the most striking anthias, the lyretail is a beautiful fish that has done well in my tanks and has no problem competing with other fish for food.

My return pump has been giving me a little grief. I'm getting a lot of bubbles to the tank and I can't put my finger on the source since I can't see anything leak so I don't know where it is drawing in air. I've turned everything off but the pump and I ran it on a closed loop by-pass straight into the sump and the sump quickly filled with microbubbles.

This is the first time I use an external pump for return so I might be missing something.

Any ideas before I redo all the plumbing from the sump to the pump ?

Here is a pic to give you an idea on how the pipes are laid. The one in the corner is old and I might take new pictures tomorrow if it would help. But you can see the bypass there.

Maybe your threaded connections? Try to retape them or pipe dope them and try that before you got and replumb it all

Put a cap or pressure at the end of the pipe and see if it leaks somewhere.

I will also add some tape to the threads as well.
