Centerpiece fish for 90g

What fish would you consider for a centerpiece for a 90g. Only fish so far are a onyx clown and melanarus wrasse. I don't want anything that will POSSIBLY nip corals (dwarf angels in particular). I'd also prefer something that's not gonna be a picky eater or eventually out grow my 90g. I'd love a Genicanthus sp angel but they get too large for a standard 90g, correct?

Likely will take heat for agreeing with the above- but I do. Most people recommend a six foot or better tank, and that is a best case scenerio. But in the reality of the 99% of people keeping fish in the world away from here-those two often live long lives in four foot tanks. Especially if you tailor the tank to the fish. The oldest yellow and purple I take care of, are 14 and 15 years old respectively. They are in a six foot tank, but each keeps to an end.

With the above said, As I have grown older, I am more fond of avoiding large centerpiece fish. I rather like "to scale" fish. When I have large fish in a tank- it becomes more of a fish tank than a reef to me.

I'm not sure how I feel about a tang. I don't necessarily want a large fish, just something that people will notice first when looking at the tank.

Yellow tang. They are extremely vivid when fed the proper diet and are very active fish. These are very underrated in my opinion.

I love the yellow tang. Just because it is common a lot don't want to go with it. Love to have a purple in the meantime.

I went through this a while ago too with my old 90g. Centerpiece fish usually means something with a different body shape than all the other wrasses, anthias, gobies etc. Fish that fit the bill are Angels, Tangs, Butterflies, and Rabbitfish. Tangs and Rabbitfish get too big, and Angels and Butterflies are a risk. You gotta take a risk, or go with something that gets a little bigger. There isn't some secret group of perfect 4' centerpiece fish out there that nobody is telling you about :) At the time, I went with a dwarf angel. This time around I know I will be upgrading so I have a larger Angel and a Rabbitfish.

Go Purple Tang. Definitiely an eyecatch. I had 3 tangs in my 90 up to a few days ago. They were all happy. I fed them all correctly and were highly active.

I have a yellow tang and hippo tang. They get along great and are beautiful. Also had purple tang as well for a number of years until it died. They are real eye catchers and have beautuful color.

Bellus angel pair for a "centerpiece", a bristle tooth tang would stay under 6" but I wouldn't consider any bristle tooth tang a centerpiece of a tank

I have a 72g gallon and I was encountering the same issue as you are. I ended up choosing to go with the Zebrasoma species of tangs. IMO they will do well in 4ft tanks provided there is enough room for them to swim. That would be recommendation for your 90, yellow or purple tang.

I guess I'm going to skip on a single centerpiece fish for my tank. I currently have a onyx clown and melanarus wrasse. I do plan on adding a Picasso clown and some or all of these:

Longnose Hawkfish (Oxycirrhites typus)
Pinkbar Goby (Amblyeleotris aurora) (or similar goby)
Longfin Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus rubriventralis)
Flame Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus jordani)
Linespot Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus lineopunctatus)
Filamented Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus filamentosus)
Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus carpenteri)

I hope you have a top for all of the jumpers you are putting in your tank

Chevron to big for a 90g? A lfs has one for way cheap. I need a centerpiece too! I say cheap...it's $100

There will be a top, I don't plan on loosing a fish due to jumping. Every tank I've had has had a netted top, my current one is pretty ghetto lol. It has an odd bowfront shape since it's a corner tank so i used velcro to secure the top
