Chaeto hanging out my tangs...

I recently upgraded sumps and finally have a fuge w/ chaeto... so now I have chaeto problems.

Occasionally I'll catch my tang with worm looking strands hanging out of it's anus(?), but it's just partially digested bits of chaeto. I try to catch any stray pieces that make their way into the DT because it's disgusting looking. BUT more concerning than the looks, is this harmful to the fish? It just doesn't look comfortable, let alone healthy.

Thanks for any input into this random question...

LOL kind of funny but I understand your frustration. Maybe when you do your water changes take the chaeto out and shake it off in the bucket of old water. That way you can catch any straggling pieces before your tang has another klingon.

Thats why I love this site.Exactly what I needed to stop my macro from making it up into the DT.I have gutter guard on there now and its a bit too large of a hole to be effective. Thanks Sk8r

I had a yellow tang that got ahold of some chaeto algae and he pooped it out but it was so long, he was able to re-eat it while it was still coming out! Worst part is my starry blenny was chasing the tang around trying to eat it as well! Gross!

Thanks for the tip, I'll go grab some!

rofl!

So from the responses of other people's fish eating it, is it safe to assume it won't harm the fish? That's my biggest concern.

Thanks again!
