what about more k for lighting is it bad?

By more I assume you mean higher?

Plants like chaeto use light in the more yellow range, like 6700 K.

So the reason higher K is bad is because the algae doesn't use that color light for photosynthesis.

would it benifit any to get cheato from different sources? you know , a bag from this guy, a bag from that guy, or would it all the be same?

Contrary to popular belief they are not all the same. Getting a variety may increase your chances of getting a faster growing species. There are over 30 species of chaeto.

I don't really think it matters. When you use a fuge for nutrient export it is just working in conjunction with your other filters (skimmer). If your fuge's purpose is for holding a sensitive species that requires a cleaner source of water than after the skimmer I would imagine would be better. If you are more interested in growing macroalgae or holding species that require a more nutrient rich water than I would say before.

Just my 2 cents.

While there is over thirty species of chaeto there is one too many species of cheetos. Those "Cheezy Pizza" Cheetos taste terrible. I should have known when they were buy one get two free for a reason. Now I'm stuck with three bags of those freaking things. And you know what? They won't go stale. I left the bag open for a week and they're still crunchy...still nasty, but still crunchy.

Do you guys run skimmers before or after the fuge?

I don't agree at all. Having a skimmer after a refuge in my opinion can eliminate the best benefit of a fuge... a food source. Copepods can get takin out of the system by the skimmer instead of flowing to the display for your livestock to eat.

Also I put my skimmer before to get the most junk out of the system instead of it hitting the refugium first where chaeto and other macros can grab hold of floating debris. This would cause it to just sit in your system and have to breakdown instead of the skimmer just lifting it out.

WOW!! That's a lot of Chaeto!

You guys were saying the more light the better. I agree, but for some reason in my experience macro all loves a ton of light but my Chaeto grows more if I have an off period on my fuge bulb during the day and on at night. And my Calurpa likes the fuge light on 24/7.

I might have missed it, but what kind of lighting do you use to grow your Caulerpa?
