I'm hoping Steve will chime in here, I have had this gal for two months now and I have only seen her a handful of times, maybe once every two weeks. Crazy huh.
Everytime I give up on her she pops out of the sand and tells me I have no clue on what is going on. LOL
Since I know Snorvich had some successs with them, I hope he see's this and can tell me if this is a normal situation for these beautiful creatures.
She looks to be healthy and eating, But I have no clue as to when she is coming out to do so. It must be in the early morning as I have not seen her with lights on for two weeks.

I hope she stays healthy and will someday come out more often, so I can enjoy her beauty more.
Very puzzled.

Beautiful Choati Brad, I've been too chicken to try one. I haven't seen Steve around for a while, wonder where he's gone to. Anyways good luck buddy, hope she does well for you.

Thanks Brett, I haven't been around too often as well, I've just been too busy at work. Hope everything is alright with Steve. How is your tank doing? I hope well.

Mine did the same for about 4 months and then gradually came out in the open more. It was never an out and about fish, but stopped doing the disappearing act all the time. I lost it after about one year due to a jumping death caused by me...

Steve Norvich only seems to post in the new to the hobby please check your intended fish purchases here sticky thread. It seems like it's been that way for several months but he did post today. Maybe you could pm him.
Hope this helps

Beautiful fish and good luck.

Mine lasted 24 hours:

Brad, beautiful fish! My experience is limited as we've only had ours now since the beginning of May (after it spent about a month at the LFS being trained on frozen food). She spent the first 3-days in the sand before starting to come out more and more. Now she's out daily from around 9/10am to 3/4pm. With my work schedule, I would have never seen her but my girlfriend's work schedule allows her to be at home midweek while the Choati is out. Without her there, I would have thought the fish only came out a few times/week as well. I know for a fact that the Choati has come out for just an hour or so and retreated back to the sand after getting a belly full of frozen mysis.

All that is to say: if you aren't watching your tank all day long, there's a good chance she's making an appearance without you knowing. I haven't busted out the camera since I got her, but here's a picture of ours when we were acclimating:

Best of luck, report back!
