So i have a 100g tank i want to set up and no stand.
I found this on the internet and was wondering what you think.

Would I be able to use these materials with a 72"x 18" x 20"?
WOuld it be too heavy. I also live in SCAL so i am a little worried about Earth quakes, but i like the idea of the cheap materials, looks dont really matter to me. What do you guys think? good or bad idea?

I just built the stand for my 50g. It cost me about 60$ for wood and screws and another 22$ to rent a saw so I can cut the wood straight O_o

soyadrink, are you going to brace/skin that stand? You have an earthquake risk up there also...

:D

I know I know, no earthquakes in seattle....

I am going to make it look nicer but just to show an example of whats gonna hold the weight.
Also the stand is over 3feet tall and therefore needs to be even more tip-over safe(did that make sense?)

Looks strong. Good joint techniques. You could skin this and make it pretty if you want too.

If you use skin that is reasonably stiff on a side and the back you will have the shear covered. Otherwise you should add a few diagonals.

Skin will take care of a lack of diagnals, that is what drywall does in a house, I thought Seattle got shoock once in a a while, like Vanquaver, and Ankorage, on the belt?!

BTW Drywall is not acceptable in most building codes as once it cracks...
Plywood is your friend. LOL
