What kind of lights are you running? Definately interesting, I've heard reports of grafting with setosa but never seen anything quite like that.

3x 250w xm20k
2x 110w actinic t12

I didnt do any grafting and the colony I got my piece from didn't have this going on as far as I know I had seen it multiple time too. Unfortunately that colony is no more

Tagging along. Same thing happened to a part of my setosa.

Woah, how can you say that and NOT post a pic!?

OP, I like how yours is kinda plating out, mine does the same thing but doesn't shoot branches upwards, I have seen lots of colonies that are crazy looking because they are growing all over the place which I think looks a little wierd.

Impressive. I saw some fraggers trying to sell grafted setosa before but i looked just like regular orange setosa. Yours came out very nice.

Thanks for the comments. It would be interesting to see another colony that's doing this to get some background information see if there is a possible explanation

Too bad it's only a graft, how long has it been like that?

No grafting promise. I wouldn't even know we're to start with that in coral. Familiar with the process in fruit trees but not corals.

Time line I m nOt sure I got a 3/4 frag a few years ago and it was red when I got it.

From what i have heard grafting is done usually by accident. A farmer in Cali Steve Garrette seems to get it to happen often because his system is so big and open. He told me that another corals spawning even will seed the pigment onto another coral.

So if you did not buy it like that then you have accidentally grafted it. If you sell frags try to get both colors on the frag. they are worth high $$$$.

interesting to know about the corals spawning idea. Didnt know that

This colony came from a true red colony i belive i still have a picture deep in my photo bucket of the original frag i recived (i ll see if i can dig it up) and the colony i got it from is well photographed because i came from a memeber here that was TOTM here years ago. He got it from somebody who got it directly from Steve Tyree i belive or off the frag farmers site.
