Chiller sizing

Afflicted Reefer
I have a Chiller sizing question. I have a 200G custom SPS reef and I went back to my Halides. Tank is climbing and then descending 3 degrees daily and they are hitting my power off threshold regularly. the fixture is 3x400 radium plus 4x80w t5 what size chiller do i need? I want the absolute smallest one that will keep the temp stable. I had a 1/4HP drop in previously but want to go smaller...posssible?

Thanks,

Tim

total water volume is around 300 gallons. and I can feed the chiller off of my return manifold. does that help?

It's volume of water as well as number of degrees. Chiller that would drop 200 gallons by 5 degrees would drop 100 by 10 degrees, or thereabouts.

I dont think you can go smaller. I am sure the 1/4hp was running for a long time to cool a system that big running MH and T5 lights. I would recommend 1/2-1hp leaning more towards 1hp. A 1/2hp chiller is rated to cool up to 300 per the information on Marine Depot for 1/2hp Aquaeuro.
