Can you get a closer picture of the algae? It looks kinda link dino. Also, the phosphate reading you gave isn't that useful. .03ppm is considered ideal, .3ppm would be pretty high, 1 would be really high.

Well there modular and there supposedly easier to repair and change out leds if ya feel the need ..

Besides that I am not sure what's all so diff

hey just finished skimming this fourm i have a problem. i have two of these chinese led bricks
http://www.amazon.com/TaoTronics-Aquarium-120W-provide-natural-sunlight/dp/B0058RXPOS/ref=pd_cp_hi_0
above a 75 gallon tank and am having problems keeping corals. softies are doing fine birds nest is open. algae is growing like crazy suffocating corals. tank has been up for three months my water parameters are as such:
cal 430
mag 1400
alk 9.2
phosphate 0-1
nitrate 0
nitrite 0
sg 1.025
temp 78
can anyone see what im doing wrong are they to close to the water?

They look to be WAY too close to the water, Get a par meter and see what your levels are. I have the Tao Tronics on my 40 breeder and had to raise them up a lot to keep from bleaching corals.

Well I found out that my order has yet to ship, now its supposed to be shipped Monday. I've been dealing with Hendy Yang, better told me that the uv's did not look good in the fixture, but the 48blues/24 whites looked "Beautiful." So I went that route. I was also contemplating the 120° but he insisted the 90° with optics. They say it's 7 business days for shipping, getting a little impatient though. Here's some pics of my actual fixtures they took last night for me, they said they were testing it to make sure everything was working correctly.

Any idea why on the A6s they have the middle two circle of LEDs all blue rather than a mixture of both white and blue? I think you could still get the ratio you wanted either way, and that way the white and blue would be evenly spread. Just curious :fun4:

And its about time!!!

JUST ORDERED MY LIGHT FROM SAM :D :D :D here is my link. My diff ratio is listed under product description!

http://www.aliexpress.com/store/317880/211586450-566668318/D120W-LED-aquarium-lighting.html

I was trying to copy jk1138s boost led ratio of: 65 royal blues 42 whites and 12 violets which is 119 leds half that is almost 60 which is close to what this unit has (55) ... hence why I went with 30 rbs 21 white 4 violets and I must thank sam for him help and being so patient with me and also MUST thank the wise TROPTREA. He helped me so much with getting my ratio figured out for the look I want and he didn't have to help at all there was nothing in it for him just helping a fellow reef and I thank him so much for his help.

Can't wait for this unit to come!

Travis:

Dont thank me.
The only thanks I want is you being happy with your descision on what you went with 6 months from now.

I had been in the business for many years and I have so many peole make mistakes that caused them to spend more money than had in the long run and in many cases give up on the hobby. What makes me happy is that more people are enjoying the hobby, and not giving up because they bought some improper equipmant to start with.

Wow sweet lights guys! I couldn't make a DIY fixture as good as these for the price. I was planning to get the A6 unit and wanted my ratio to be pretty blue like the ati Blue plus with 6 uv. Can someone point out a good ratio for this?

I get what you mean troptrea but whether or not this unit makes me happy or fails me in 6 months has nothing to do with you. Your not the seller you helped me with what I needed for no reason but just to help and I really appreciate that and do thank you.

I don't plan on giving up if this 177 dollar light doesn't work hhaha if that was the case I would have given up about 500 dollars worth of dead fish and corals ago haha I'm in too deep to give up now but I get what your saying and I your still owed a thank you!

I agree with this. Troptrea, your time and advise are truly appreciated here. Like I told you before, I respect the way that you state the facts and your opinions without getting defensive every time someone disagrees. So often on these internet forums people think that everyone has to do things their way or it is wrong. Also they seem a bit condescending to newbies. You are the kind of poster that really adds value here.
Thanks again.
Mike.

Better, newer design. Quieter fans, less heat, modular.

Well this is the first i have heard of this. where did you get your info? as for design the pic of the a6 from the top is the same case as the regular dimmable, the fans on the regular dimmable are very quiet at least on mine they are, Less Heat? a led is a led is a led the heat should be the same as they are useing the same led's but they may have a heatsink which the regular dimmable doesn't, my regular dimmable the only place you can feel heat is on the light side and that is just slightly warmer than room temprature the rest of the fixture is cool to the touch. The only differance i see is from the light side is that it has a floodlight design and the regular dimmable has a grid design. and im not real big on the spotlight/floodlight look myself. and the design is a copy, simular to the ecotech radion which has been out for a while. Can either the A4's or the regular 165w boxes from Evergrow be used with the Typhon controller? Do we know what kind of dimmable drivers that are used?

The 2011 unit isn't modular. The NOVA would be much easier to open and change out parts, including leds. The power cables can also be linked to multiple units so everything can be controlled by only 2 cables it seems, but I'm not sure how that works yet. The optics look to be separate from the leds (verifying). Crees can be installed for a higher price, or I could add them in the future a bit easier.

There are heatsinks (confirmed). Going to crack it open and see if the drivers are compatible with a 0-10v controller for sunrise/sunset. If this is possible, it would be huge. (verifying)

Should have mine by Tuesday. If you don't ever feel like opening it, the $165 model is the better value. For anyone looking to tinker with the unit and add/ mod things like leds or sunrise/sunset in the future, the new Novas would be better.

I do like the daisy chain feature of the nova's for larger tanks with multple lights. The electricians out there should do a DIY for a controller when they see what dimmable drivers these have. I would think the same could be done with the $165 units as they have dimmable drivers too

It shouldn't be too difficult. There would be two wires going to the dimmer switch which would have to be put into the typhon/apex controller instead.

No one has opened either box and said what drivers are being used yet, so that's still a mystery.
