Chinese LED Lights

units it2080 evergrows
now here is the issue and I am working with supplier to resolve. After a year of use , out of the 6 fixtures, 5 of them have issues with one of the channels on each . On one unit the all blue channel string of blue leds is out completely, it has no light on leds on that string.

Interested in what you find out... I have two Evergrow D120's that the blue channels went out on about a week apart. Units were right at 2yrs old. Before the channels completely went out I noticed a couple blue diodes were not working. I wonder if they used diodes that repeated the circuit or something when they first started making these lights. I know reefbreeders say they use diodes that won't cause the entire string to go out if one blows. Like Christmas lights! Merry Christmas by the way!
Anywho, The blue drivers are fine on my two units. I tested each diode with a battery pack I made and drove them individually by touching a wire to the neg leg and a wire to the pos leg. Found out I had about 4-5 burned out blue diodes per channel per D120. was n the process of soldering in new blue diodes when I purchased a used Pacific Sun Metis Hyperion R2 2X150. My d120 project got put on a shelf in the fish closet....

Ok this is a great thread, I've been reading thru it for the last three days on and off, great info. I am going to go to LED lighting from a 4 bulb T-5 H O light currently and want some opinions and reasons why for your opinions. My system is a 75g mixed sump less with LPS, mushrooms, some softies, zoas, GSP, but no SPS at this time, I'm not ruling them out completely but have no plans of adding any in the near future. After reading thru everything here especially from 2013 on, I would like to go with one of these two options. 1) 2 Aquamana Cob lights, or 2) 1 Photon 48 unit, here are a couple of questions that I have. I have my livestock pretty much end to end of the 48" width of the tank with a nice frogspawn LPS on the far left side maybe 3" from the side glass so I want the light coverage as wide of an area as possible covering the 48" width, will either one of my two choices be better than the other for width coverage or is it pretty much a toss up on this one? Also obviously the Aquamana Cob light option would be less expensive, but if having the controller on the Photon 48 is worth the extra cash I have no problem with that as long as I don't give up light coverage area. Hanging either of the fixtures won't be any problem for me so that doesn't play into the decision much. So feel free folks to give your opinions, and I would like especially to hear from people who use either unit and how they like it and any concerns they have had with it. Thank you.

Dan

Mkighntryder,,, Interesting. There s no way all these led's are going at same time. We're talking about 4 it2080 units.

Add me to this list. I just put up 3 s026 ocean revive fixtures up over my 180.

Posted this in my tank build/rebuild/recover thread.

I took out the reefbrite strips tonight and installed the ocean revive s026 fixtures. I repositioned one of the wood rails I installed for the 48" reefbrites. I set one of them off center slightly forward. Then just used the hanging kit to loop over it and tilted them slightly forward. This was also a recommendation of one of the company reps on here. Makes them about 6" off the water line.

Its nice having them on that rail as I was able to tilt and slide them around to get the coverage I wanted. When I first turned them on I got shadowing from the braces and shifted them a bit until it was gone.

With the shadowing

I have them set at about 50% white channel and 75% blue channel. I still have a little tweaking to do but its good for now.

looking at some for my 40b, should i get two for 3 ft tank?
I was told the spread in the ocean revives I got are 2x3. From my eyes perspective that 3rd foot is lit but not very much. The 2x2 spread on these are perfect. If you have most everything in the middle then one could do it.

Ok good to know, I guess ill start with one and get another in the future if i need to. Thanks!

True true.... they say these leds last what 10,000 hrs. So ten hrs a day x's 365 days is 3,650 x 2 yrs & you at 7,300 hours on the blue diodes.... just my theory though. Maybe the blue diodes used on the first batches of lights were not as good as the others....:hmm4
Bout like your vehichles warranty! Break downs always occur right after the warranty expires!

you may be on to something mknightryder... some of the units now have some leds completely out.. one or two per unit.. and yes on same channel.. channel one.. all blue.. so strange.. so now not so sure its the drivers.. this is really a pain.. as I have five out of six units failing..

Hi all. I recently bought a MR 120 165w full spectrum off of Ebay to use on my 29 biocube mixed reef. What percentage should you start out with on these lights? I only have live rock at the moment, as the tank is still cycling.

I just picked up what I thought was an open box special on the Aquamana 2 COB light with the little moonlights in the center. Turns out it's one of the normal 2 COBs and the blue channel is dead. I'm so frustrated.

I'm trying to get my first reef tank up and running, is Aquamana known for junk like this? I'm sending it back obviously.

Any suggestions on maybe some more reliable options for a 40 Breeder?

It shocked me when I saw the Chinese LED thread closed . I learned so much from it. People please follow the RC rules for forums.

And if people try to break the rules, suspend there account for a month or so.

Please let this tread live on.

This thread is helping to develop the LED market for the better of this hobby.
good

chicago ,how many years experience of led light ?

I am finally taking the plunge this weekend and placing an order with Reef Breeders for a Photon 48 to put over my 55g

In the planning stages of a 8' narrow tank (20" deep), mostly LPS, maybe a little SPS.

Thinking of getting 3 Arctic T247s. What do you guys think? Other options you'd recommend that would work well and not break the bank?
