Chinese LED Lights

I ordered my D120 (default) christmas offer from evergrow with DHL to Sweden exactly 4 days ago. DHL just called me that he is here within half an hour to deliver it. Incredibly smooth I must say! I will come with review and unboxing :)

They sent me the wrong colors!!! Only blue and whites, no other!!! ARGH!!!

I'm very interested to see what adding some red will do to both growth and appearance of the corals. My only feet is that from what I have read that most nuisance algaes and bacteria love red light. I still think I'll try to find a way to slide a few reds in with my cyan and normal blue. I plan on adding more royal blue anyway so that should counteract the appearance of the red, I hope.

on the lay out of the IT2080 there are 4 rows,now my question is on which side is the lcd display situated(row 1 or row 4 ?which(row 1 or 4) is the front side?My display should be on the backside,because I only have the possibility to touch the backside!

getting ready to pull the trigger on the reefbreeders 120 watt Bridgelux Value LED Fixture. I have a 34 gallon that is 30" long, 18" wide, and roughly 14" deep from waterline to top of the substrate. I'm hoping for a turn-key, low budget system. I don't know enough to customize. Tank is currently a fowlr but want to add a mix of corals, I'm OK if more lilght demanding ones can only go in certain locations. Its either this unit or a fishneedit T5 with upraded bulbs (leaning towards LED because I don't want to fork out cash for new bulbs when this LED unit will be good enough).


If I order this unit, I believe I do not need optics for my tank size, is this correct? For planning purposes, how heigh above the tank should I target?

Any reason to not get this unit?
 
So, since royal blue is ~450nm, wouldn't it make more sense to use LEDs that are closer to 420-430nm? It looks like the graph tapers quite a bit by the time it hits 450nm. Maybe the graph isn't quite to scale.

Anyone have any resources I can read to learn more about wavelength and coral growth? Remember I'm not quite a biologist, but I'd love to read more about this. Surprised at how high the spike around 650-660nm is.

I've learned a lot for this thread, but I'd like to dig a bit deeper.

Whites are 5 x 50w 10000k, got 3 x 30w royal blues, 2 x 30w blues, 4 x 3w red 660nm, 4 x 1w 405nm uv lunar, 4 x 5w uv 410nm

Whites never get past 50% at the min on 20% as had a big red algae outbreak, unit is ran off 36v 18amp psu.

i get them locally here in my country for 15$ (in ur currency) each... the blues are royal blues and the whites are pure white... they whites might be 8000k coz if u click a pic, there is a bluish tint, which shows that its on the higher kelvin side... its really intense... im also planning to connect a tank to the current setup and use 3w gu10 bulbs (have seen many reefers using them)...

I believe that sticking to basic and some common sense, saves loads of money when it comes to reefing...

As far as the lighting is concerned, i saw people spending 1000s of $$$ on branded ones and its really stupid... some basics i know and have tested are:

1) Bluer light penetrates the most and as you move into ocean, it looks bluer and bluer.. so use of blues with whites 50/50 or 60/40 is a good thing...
2) As u see in oceans that the sun light shimmers, MH and high power leds Shimmer too, that got me to using LED flood lights and trying 3w gu10s (iv seen people growing all sps and clams using gu10s)
3) Using t5s and plls is a pain as they loose the intensity within 3months so changing is compulsary, leds last for atleast 3yrs - 5yrs max
4) I dont know about other countries, but in my country, the electricity bills come really high so MH are no chance. i had used 75w MH and my bill came to 500$ for just 1 month
5) All these big brands are using the same leds that you get on ebay... even crees are not that expensive but when you get these cheap led lights brandless, i think trying them is not gona loose anything..
6) People who advertise them espesially the famous hobbyist, get them for free or at 50% discount from the companies so thats how they tell us to buy them. Im not saying they are bad, im saying the prices are just not worth.
7) you can go for these branded lights only if you want funky stuff like changing kelvin and stuff, programming, etc. you can go for them.. i use timers, like blues are on for 10hrs and whites for 8hrs...

iv seen people using 420nm and without too, never saw any difference in growth or colour xcpt the look of the tank... im too planing on 420nm as i like the look of it but nothing else...

Some updated shots of my temporary lighting over my new 120 gallon. The first light is my 120w IT2040. The second is my 180w DIY Nova (which I will be selling off eventually). These are being run at 50%B, 30% white for the IT, and 50% for the DIY. Notice how bright it is at 50%? It isn't as blue in person.
