Chinese LED Lights

where did you hear this? is it the same for the IT series?

From Sunny our EverGrow sales person for our GB's (not via Aliexpress). Since We were only interested in D120's (GB ended up getting 60+ D120's so far) at the time never asked about IT's, but if "NOT AVAILABLE" at this time even as extra optics it would seem logical for all fixtures. Same information from her about the LED angle now being only 90*'s contrary to their web site which states 120* LED's. Ask her the specific questions directly @ EverGrow-Sunny [sales12@evergrowlighting.com] and see what she tells you with IT's.

Hi there, looking to buy a D120 soon and was hoping someone could give me some input on this proposed LED layout. color coded for ease of viewing. the grey colored LEDs are the "warm white"

has anyone gotten any info on the Rapid setup Onyx looks like it may be similar to these but with CREE LEDS? Cost is a step up but not sure if the cree might be worth the differance.

Your lights at 100% will be very 10K white and the tiny bit of color you'll get will be purple. You'll have to dial the whites down to 20-30% before you'll start to get any blue tint.

Just my opinions:
Drop the greens and replace with blue. Green does little for coral

Drop down to 2 red (maybe even 1) and replace with blue. Very little red will turn a lot of blue to purple.

The violet don't cast as much light as the other leds and they don't add any 'pop' as far as I can see in mine. I'd keep 2 max and replace with blue.

If you want 10K at 100%, but it starts to get blue as soon as you drop the whites down 20-40% you'll want 2:1 blue to white maybe even 2.5:1. If you want 14K at 100% you'll want at least 2.5:1 and maybe even 3:1.

Mine are 3:2 blue to white and I have 4 reds. At 100% mine are very 10K white with a bit of purple. I have to drop my whites to 20-30% to lose the purple and start to get any blue tint (maybe a weak 14K).

Hope that helps. Maybe bhazard can help out with the whites. I didn't use many warm or neutral whites.

Where are you guys getting cyan leds from? I dont see any on ebay and last time I checked (2 weeks ago) EG didnt have cyan, only green 520nm.

hey everyone i have been reading a lot and seeing these LEDs rocking tanks out. can someone give me a lead for a good light setup for a 75gal aga standard tank. it does have a center brace. im just keeping fish for the time being but will soon be going back to coral. thank you for help ahead of time

The green does seem to be absorbed by zooanthelle at least as much as the red according to the chart I linked a few pages back. I dont mind keeping 2 in there as they dont really affect the look of the tank but might be beneficial to coral.

Im going to try and just keep 1 of the reds and replace the other with blue. I made a cardboard square and covered 1 then 2 of the reds, the color looks much less purple without it but I would like at least one for the benefit of red.

From my understanding, violet and UV dont provide much visible light or POP to the tank but the corals may react to these colors and produce better coloration in response.

As for the whites, I used 12K but Im wondering if swapping those out for lower K whites would lessen the purple any more.

Got my lights today and so far so good. Everything came packaged excellent and everything work perfect. I got the Evergrow D120. After reading through this thread and my head spinning with color combos I opted for on of the Christmas special as at seemed to be full spectrum. Time will tell if I made the right choice. Here are a few shots with my 250MH from today just before taking them down and adding 2 of the D120's on my 100g tank. These lights seem brighter than my halides when cranked all the way up.

Sorry not much for coral right now just Duncans and mushrooms but I will be picking up some SPS in the next few days so I will keep you all posted on how the LPS/SPS do under these lights.

As for the green and it's usefulness to the coral, it's not you and I that disagree, it's the support graphs that we each found that disagree. Mine says green isn't used much at all, yours shows green as important as the red. We need another study! :lmao:

I'll be doing some testing with my D120 and IT2040 this weekend. I'm going to try covering the red leds too and see how things look.

I agree that the "UV" and violet colors have some usefulness to corals, I don't know just how effective they are at actually making those colors and having enough strength to provide enough (is it lumens?) to really be of any use. It would be nice to see the stats on each led.

As for the whites, my warm whites have a bit of a yellow tint, the neutral whites and cool whites look almost the same. The cool white does look a bit more bright white. Given that, I think the cooler whites would reduce the purple tint and the warmer whites could potentially add to the purple tint. But that's just an uneducated guess on my part.

Arw547- I ordered my 2080 on dec 15. He said 2 weeks so I sent him another email asking for a date. That's when he said the first of the year. I hope he's right!! 😟

Ez, taking off the optics essentially makes the leds 120 degrees.
Now my question, :D , as i will bevordering soon, i want to ise my debit card so she aaid buy the diy link on aliexpress and then send her my template through email? Is this how it works? i wonder how she knows that template goes with my order, shoul i provide my shipping adress in the email as well?

When did you order your 2080? I ordered mine on November 17th (standard layout, 90 degree optics) and I'm still waiting on an exact ship date.
I ordered on 17 december and delivered on 24 december!I went with EG.super service and also the spare leds are included in the box.

Does anyone know the par for 120 optics of the IT fixtures vs the 90 optics over a 20" tall tank? I have the 90 optics right now on the the 2040 fixture and am getting shades all around so wanted to try out the 120 optics.

Its around a 100 point drop or so, depending on how high you hang the fixture. Without optics, you want the lights closer to the water.

Thanks. I have them sitting at about 5" above water surface and at the sand bed at full 100%, I am getting about 300 par. Right under the water surface I was getting 1400 par. I was talking to Sunny and she mentioned they also have 120 optics which I thought taking the optics off gives you the 120 spread, didn't know 120 was still with optics.

When the D120 used 120* angle LED 's that was correct, but now Sunny says they are all 90* LED angle so you would have a 90* spread. Confirm that with her directly and any other questions. We never talked to her about the new IT series fixtures which might use a different LED and optics now.

As to Aliexpress she works through that site and that should be fine, however, as a group buy we went via email to her at EverGrow sales. Not sure if there is any real difference on individule fixture pricing.
