I can't decide between whether or not I want to go with the D120 with customization or the Cadlights. I'm leaning towards the Cadlights because I feel like I'll never figure out a layout I'll be happy with.

That cadlight is somewhat poorly designed, and triple the price for less output. How much space are you looking to cover? a 50w multichip is also dirt cheap, and you could make a similar light out of a multichip for less than $100. I personally love the single point source effect of a multichip, but I absolutely hate its heat, lower efficiency, and lack of spectrum.

That light leaves all of the spectrum to the multichip, which essentially ignores large regions of spectrum and is underpowered. D120 or the new IT2040 is better by far. The PAR readings are also even less than what I took for the d120/IT2040.

I'm gong to design something up today and place an order. I'll put togeher
a tutorial when I am done showing everything I bought/costs/pics/etc.

Give me a week or two to get something built.

Does the clip slide on the bracket at all?
 
Looking to replace a few leds with reds in my twilights and after talking to Lyn, shipping would be too great for just 6 leds $30, so does anyone know where in the states I can order some from that will work in Lyn's fixture. I have just the 90 degree beam spread 3 watt.

Ask them to ship via airmail. It will take around 3 weeks though.

You might have to use their leds. I tried their leds in another fixture, and other leds in their fixture, and in both cases the leds didn't light up.

Any ebay 3w epistar/bridgleux led will work in the d120. Check the Aqua Style website for what they look like, or buy them from there too.

If they are on stars, you'll have to remove them from the stars. It is easier to buy ones that aren't. Evergrow will sell you the leds too directly.

The top of my canopy opens up and is hinged so I cannot use the hanging kit or anything from the top, I was kind of looking for someone who has used the sides of their canopy with tracks or something to get an idea.... anyone?

I'm going to build this today or tomorrow but I kind of want to see how the lights hang onto your clip.

I have several questions hopefully someone can help!

SO is the only difference between the D120 and the IT-120 the LCD screen and timers? Also, where are you guys ordering the IT-120? What is the IT-2040? So many serial numbers being tossed around.

Also, per Hazards post, I see that there are these three white options available:

"Cool White (7500k-14000k)
Neutral White (~4500-6500k)
Warm White (~3500k)"

Is cool white the most popular white? I'm looking at commercially available fixtures and it looks like they mostly use Cool White. If someone were going for a 10K look, which white would they use?

- The new light (IT120,2040, same thing) has a heatsink, adjustable hanging kit, lcd screen, sunrise/sunset, moonlights, and a remote control over the d120.

- Cool White is the standard. Neutral White and Warm White are experimental for adding more PAR and spectrum to a fixture to better mimic sunlight and MH. 1:1 cool white to blue for 10-12k, 2:1 mixed whites to blue for 10-14k, 3:1 warm white to blue for 10-14k.

If using Cool Whites, change the 6 blue on dimmer 2 to whites, and you'll have a perfect blend near 10k. If you want to use neutral/warm whites, then the layout is fine for 10-14k.

I can't link to the company, but google "Evergrow Lighting".. or go to the Reefbreeders website and look at the "104 watt fixture" It is the same one.

That default setup with cool whites will look around 16-18k. Yep, just switch the 6B to 7500k and up Cool Whites. 7500k or 10k whites might look the best.
