Chinese LED Lights

I went with 90 degree lenses and 90 degree optics. Units are hung about 8 inches above the tank in an canopy.

Does it cover your tank plenty? Do you think it would still cover if your tank was 6 inches bigger on each side ? I ask because I'm going to be setting up a 60 inch long thanks soon and I know I could get away with 2 unit with 120 degree lenses and no optics like I have now but I want to do 90 degree lenses with optic and im worried about coverage

I just finish my order with twilight for a 60x36 im going with 4 in a canopy with 90 degree optics

Yea Kevin I use a d120 with no optics and 120 degree leds on my 65 gall ( same dimensions as a 40 breeder just a little taller) I have 2 clams in my sand bed , here is some proof...

NICE, my LED is almost the exact setup as yours (120 degree). THank You!

I just was able to get a 2.5 inch Crocea clam for $30 bux out the door

My tank now is 36x18 one d120 covers it full but thats with no optics and 120 lenses...the one I'm setting up soon is exactly 2 feet longer then my tank now its 60x18 so 2 of what I have now would cover plenty ....

The lights I have cover my tank pretty good. I think in your case using 90 degree optics with only two units only 6" off the water may leave a shaded area in the center. I would go with 120 optics if the tank is less than 20" or so to get propper coverage. How deep is the tank and how many braces does it have?

There is only one center brace and its replaced now with a clear piece of acrylic so there is no shadows so I'd prob run them 10 inches apart so 10 inches in the center then one 15" unit to the left and one 15" unit to the right ... thats 40 inches which would leave 10" off each side of the tank to the units ... each unit should cover most of that 10 inches on each side

question ! which is better it2040 or twilight dim 120 with built in timer

Tough question. I think both have their good and bad points. On one hand you have the it2040 that has a nice interface and are capable of connecting two together. However, they do have an issue with their internal clocks keeping time and they don't ramp the brightness from one time setting to the next. The Twilight units don't have the time issue and their software will ramp the brightness from one time to the next. However, their interface is not as nice as the it2040 and you cannot connect two fixtures together. I have also heard that the Twilight units do not seem as bright as the it2040, but without seeing par readings from both I don't know how true that is. I personally have two Twilight units above my tank and think that they are plenty bright and would not hesitate to purchase from them again.

The Twilights seem to be much better now with their new layout compared to the one I tried.

The ramping is smoother on the twilight units. I could not change out LEDs on the twilight unit however, as it wouldn't light up unless you used the original LEDs. The price is cheaper. My original twilight unit had very dim whites compared to Ever grow, but those might have been upgraded recently too. They offer the option for Cree as well.

The hanging kit, LCD screen, remote, and optics are nicer on the evergrow.

If you don't see the need to change out the LEDs, the Twilights are pretty nice price wise. There are two versions though, one with manual dimmers, and one with sunrise/sunset

Just finished modifying my Nova A4. I got itr with 20 royal blue and 4 violet on dimmer 1, and 16 white, 4 UV and 4 Royal blue on dimmer2. This was just too blue for my taste. I like a very crisp color. I dont like whites to look blue. I also do not like to use the dimmers for color adjustments, so I wanted to get the color as close to where I liked it at 100% both channels. I have been slowly adding and taking away certain colors and I have finally hit exactly how i like it. The final LED layout is 20 royal blue and 4 violet on dimmer 1. 12 Neutral white, 4 warm white, 4 UV, 2 red, 2 green on channel 2. Here are some pics. The colors in the pic are just slightly more white than real life. I am very happy with how they turned out.

Hi CEC How deep is you tank? mine was 24" deep it's a 120 gal reef tank and I'm going to order tomorrow my IT 2040. As of now I'm planning to have 4 reds (660nm), 4 violet (420nm), 2 green, 27 RB (450nm), 16 whites (combination of 35/65/12k) what do you think?

I have read that 12k above can penetrate 24 - 31-inches deep that's why I think out of the 16 white I could use maybe 10 of them will be 12k then 2 will be 35k and 4 will be 65k?

anyone? thank you

My advice is to get 3 and do 90 degree optics, he has soft corals/mushrooms and was willing to take a little risk on the coverage spread.

72" is a lot of tank to cover with only 2 lights and with braces on the tank ect I dont think you will get coverage you will be happy with.

Here is a FTS of mine with 3 lights on it.

Nice tank! The lights look good! Do you have any sps and if so how are they growing?

Just received my twilight led today, so far very pleased. I got a model that's dimmable with a 3 channel timer, but the dimming is not controlled via the timer. I have 90 degree optics. For reference I have had a 250w MH + 4 x t5ho's odyssea fixture with icecap ballast, then a DIY 120w led with 12 x10w epistar hybrid blue/white multichip LEDs, now this Chinese black box.
The fans are quiet, hardly audible really. the white LEDs are definitely bright enough although I prefer a bluer look to my tank anyways, but I could see where their white LEDs are not as powerful as other 3w emitters out there, but its hardly noticeable. The blues look great. It has 3 moonlights. I have not had time to really figure out the timer yet. I have set the date and time on it which was easy enough.
I will add some pics

If you had a choice between an IT2040 or a Kessil 350 what would you choose?

Two different animals completely. You can't customize the LEDs in a kessil, no hanging kit, no remote, no moonlights, no sunrise sunset dimming, covers less area, and its $100 more. The only thing it does better is shimmer.

Evergrow also has a 24" unit and a 32" unit now. Reef breeders just showed pics and said $329 for the 24", and $499 for the 32"

The 24" unit looks cool. I might pick up two of them
