Chinese LED Lights

Its a 24" tall tank but ill have a 3 or 4 inch sand bed so it will really only be 20"

If I were you with the clams I would try two d120s with 90 degree lenses. You can always add another unit later if you want. Another thought is why don't you use your existing unit and add two more with the 90 degree lenses?

I would but I'm gonna go with a diff ratio few less whites couples more blues and add some red and green and a couple warm whites.....

The unit I have now is gonna go on my sons cube tank I'm gonna add optics to it ... or try too at least lol

I am looking at the D120 for a 50g(36x18x19) I dont have a canopy. Would I want to get the 90 degree optics? And is there something better then this light in the same price range. Thanks for your help all.

Evergrow also has a 24" unit and a 32" unit now. Reef breeders just showed pics and said $329 for the 24", and $499 for the 32"

The 24" unit looks cool. I might pick up two of them

Where did u see the pics? I went to reef breeders didn't see them

Two different animals completely. You can't customize the LEDs in a kessil, no hanging kit, no remote, no moonlights, no sunrise sunset dimming, covers less area, and its $100 more. The only thing it does better is shimmer.

Thanks BHazard for the input. I know they offer different features, but as far as the quality, and ability to produce color and growth in a mixed reef tank what would you recommend?

Bhaz why can't I pm you?

I wanted to ask you what u think the ratio I want to use will look like ... I posted it on here asking but I'm sure it disappeared in the pages so I thought I'd just pm ya this time but no option to do that lol

32 rbs...11 whites (10-12k, I know I know these aren't ur fav lol) 4 warm whites 4 violets 2 green 2 reds

I wanna 20k look I think a 2:1 rb to white (10k) would be that so since I used some warm whites I figured a tad over 2:1 ratio wouldn't hurt with the warm whites in there ... 32 to 15 is a 2.2 to 1 ratio ... anyway your thoughts would be great

Hi bhazard451 can you please check my custom layout? I'm going to order my led fixture from evergrow today and after a lot of reading here's my own custom layout, I don't want to PUT UV, my tank is 24-inches deep, LPS dominated with softies, clam and planning to add some SPS in the future.

Your advice will be much appreciated before I hit the buy button :) Thank You

Suggestions from everyone is accepted :fun4:

Just my opinion but you might want to spread your violets out a little more from each other. One thing I would suggest is to see if they will throw in a few extra LED's just in case you need to replace some down the road.

Sandy wiped out power here, which won't be restored for a week or possibly more. I won't be able to post much

Those VHOs fill in the missing spectrum that cool white/royal blue fixtures cannot provide. Without them, your coral would lose color within a few months, and may not grow as quickly. I've have seen it firsthand, as my first fixture was blue/white only, and it explains why so many AI Sol blue owners switched back to halides.

This post was a few days ago but I have to comment so that people are well informed. This is just absolutely not true. I have had a tank running under only led blue/white for the past 4 months after switching from an led/vho setup. I have seen my corals grow and colors are coming out more and more. I have polyps that have gained new rings, brown mushrooms that now have beautiful speckles of green throughout them and a button polyp that is showing me colors I never knew it had before.

Your experience is the exact opposite of mine and many others running the same blue/white setup for over 3 months. My Zoa garden is my reference, and running only blue and cool white produces dull reds, oranges, blues, greens, and purples compared to running a fixture which adds red, violet, cool blue, warmer whites, and some green/cyan. Acans and SPS are the first to lose their color under blue/white, especially red ones, or shallow water SPS that possibly utilize 660nm and 420nm for photosynthesis, which cool white/blue do not provide.

I can reproduce it visually as well. Once I turn off my color channel of LEDs, and only run blue and white, you can see the difference. That's even with neutral and warm whites, which have a wider spectrum available than cool whites. The same faded Acans and zoas under strictly cool white/blue also colored up within weeks and retained it once I switched.

The absolutely not true part is subjective and not accurate unless you've tested both setups like I have, and with a wider range of coral. I haven't even been able to test many SPS, but they also can lose color. This is readily seen with people selling their ai Sol blue units on sps tanks and going back to halides.

You would have to see older pics posted, as because of the hurricane, I may be out of power for a week or more, and will most likely lose my tank.

try to get a generator bhaz or a power inverter and run power from your car maybe 4 hrs a day light, powerhead, n heater....maybe you can ride it out until they fix the power hopefully soon

thanks for the suggestion sir, I have revised my layout and here it is. I've also asked for the extra 8 leds so if in case I need to change leds :)

I have already submitted my final layout and they'll start building my fixture very soon. Sunny from Evergrow gave me their updated price of $319 via paypal instead of the original price of $336 DIY IT2040 that's a week ago. In short I've saved 17usd :fish1:

bhazard i believe you said a couple weeks ago that you would post your updated layout after adding some violets to your new test fixture. did you do that?

The original layout had six violets, and I never changed that.

Actually, in the original layout, the whites are so powerful that it creates a 10k look at 100%. Even with adding 3 red and 3 cyan, it is still very white. More blue is needed for 14-18k.

bhazard451 or someone who has experience with Evergrow lights...

I have 15" X 15" X 17"(height) aquarium.

I talked to Sunny from EG and i was told that i can use D120 light for my aquarium. I ask you if it will be good for my aquarium size as the aquarium is cube shape and the light is not cube oriented. I do not want that the light will shine out of the tank at the side...

Do you think that d120 at 30-50% power will be suitable for my tank?

I was also looking Nova A4 but the price is 70$ higher than D120...
Thank you

I've been following this thread and purchased two of the d120 with auto timer, manual dimmer from twilight. I ordered just one to make sure I would like it then ordered another. I used Bhazard's layout from the old thread. I like them. But the second came with a couple of issues.
There is a slight electrical shock from the blue dimmer when I adjust it. With shoes on I don't feel it. I took it apart to make sure the unit was grounded and could not find anything out of place. Has any one else had any issues similiar to this? Seems like I need to send it back. The exspense involved would not be worth it.
Put an email in to Jason and haven't heard back yet.
