Chinese LED Lights

I got in the new 420nm violets to put in my NOVA A4 fixture. I replaced 4 405nm violets and 4 395 violets. All of the lenses turned black and they eventually burned out. The new violets have a different optic bubble on the LED itself. It is almost a silicone rather than the hard plastic as before. The PAR numbers actually went up as well with these 8 new LEDs. This is after the switch. Before the switch they were aprox. 100 PAR lower in all areas. This is with the light hung 10" over the tank and all on 100%

Thanks for the PAR numbers. Love the tank! You've been running that Nova for awhile now right? Looks like its been working out great.

I didnt go through this whole post but where can one obtain these LED lights ?

I'd love to replace my 48" 6x54 watt T5 System in the near future or tax return...

Reefbreeders is a RC sponsor that sells these. They are in the sponsor forum, or you can go to their website.

EShine is decent, until you have a warranty problem. Multiple people have said that they will ignore you if something fails on the light.

what light would you recommend for a 20 gallon long then? i would like to put the light in a canopy if possible but i'm concerned that i wont get the coverage i need without going higher than the canopy will allow. will the D120 cover a 30" tank and 6-8" above the water?

The d120 value fixture without optics should work fine in a canopy. Same with that twilight one.

Someone should take par numbers of the newer twilight lights. Their controller was decent, but you cannot swap LEDs on that fixture.

thanks for the reply, i will have to look into the d120 then. is there any change in the LED layout that you would recommend for the d120?

Nope. The reef breeders layout they use is close to perfect. Cyan LEDs would be more preferable than green LEDs, but they don't carry them yet.

Please help, here are a few pics of my tank, its 48x24x18tall
I have a dozen more sps arriving Tuesday 1/29/13. I am currently running a 36" ATI Power module 8x39watt. I am thinking about switching over to these units. what would be good for a 48" tank for color and growth, and LED layout. I am new to the LED and would like to get it right the first time. any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

The 32" unit would cover a 48" tank if hung about 6-10" above the water.

Nice thread a question i saw a post i think here that showed
a chinese fixture that had THE leds on 20m stars ......
Anybody know what fixture that was.....there were some good pics
of it.

Hey bhaz I swear my left light is brighter then my right a little ... there at the same settings if I put my left light at 60blue and white at 20 and the right one at 60blu 30 white then it looks the same ... could it be cause the right one is running its power off the left light and not on its own power outlet?

My wife even noticed it when I asked her so its not just me

Tell them. Maybe one of the drivers isn't putting out the same power.

Thanks for the compliments. Yeah ive had the light for about 6 months. I just completely re did the rockwork. Got all new rock and acid washed it. I had a dino problem and couldnt get rid of it. Tank os getting better. Corals are still stressed out but are regaining color

Bhazard, is there any benefit to moving the violets to to inside rows like in your layout as opposed to the RB standard having them on the outer rows?

Do you think there is any chance of the power cord powering the unit through the other unit being my issue? Maybe being on its own power cord will give it more power?

I haven't just tried that yet cause I wasn't sure if Id lose my settings if I unplugged the power to it ... I dread having to reprogram it if so lol

No difference. As long as they are evenly spread length wise across the fixture it doesn't matter. Reds and greens need to be next to each other, unlike in the layout I posted, or else it increases green/red shadows.

Make sure you chose SAVE in the menu, otherwise you will. I'd say give it a shot. All that extra plug is doing is sharing the load to the outlet, so it probably won't make a difference, but try it anyway. My guess is one driver is running lower than the other drivers.

Red and greens will be on the same channel still, right? I guess you mean next to each other on the diagonal on the next row?

I have been meaning to ask this for a few days now. I have the ReefBreeders version of the IT2040. Excellent LED setup IMO. I have gone to a custom program (will need to tweak it a bit). The issue I have is that the display is always on now.

Is there a way to turn the backlighting of the display off or will it always stay on with a custom program?

My only concern is that the display will eventually die and need replacing.

Wow, this is a really long thread. I just need some quick advice. Will this light grow sps in my frag tank? I specifically chose the one with more blues than whites. Taotronics AL02 http://www.ebay.com/itm/TaoTronics-...797&pid=100011&prg=1005&rk=1&sd=170975522386&

And if you read the reviews of the TaoTronics products listed right there on Amazon (not Ebay but Amazon), you'll find a lot of pretty bad reviews. Loud fans, dead leds, no sevice from the company... :thumbdown
