Chinese LED Lights

Klewis, looks good man. I have two of the smaller pendants, but that looks better IMO! How far apart are the mounts. Wondering how my hangers above would work on it?

Thank you, I'm getting excited about my tank again because of the light. This tank was set up in this room as a temp set up about 4 years ago with the plan of upgrading another tank. I'm breaking down a 75gallon in the living room and finally going to move this 120 in there. I measured the dimensions, and took a pic of the top of the fixture for you. If you cant read the notes just let me know...

Klewis, light looks good. I was looking at this light for my 72 bowfront build, but missed the June group buy. Come on August group buy! Thanks for the pics.

How do you like the Photon 48? I bought one myself a little over a month ago for my 72 Bow. I personally love it so far!! I apologize if you mentioned it earlier in the thread but what does your setup consist of?

I started a thread about the fixture and my experience. Feel free to check it out and share your experience as well.

The Photon48 is too long for a 55g tank. Save some money and get either a Photon32 or go to OceanRevive and get the original manufacturer's EverGrow IT2080. The 32" light will cover your 48" 55g tank. The 48" light will put leds at the very ends of the tank and they will just waste light throwing it out the ends of the tank (even with 60 degree lenses, and 90s will be even worse).

I have a 55g tank and use 2 EG D120's. I have a 180g with 2 IT2080's. I wouldn't even consider the Photon48 for my 55g. You'd be wasting money and getting a light that will not do as good a job as the 32" fixture will.

I have to argue your point about the Photon 48 being to long. And saving the money as well. I have the Photon 48 on my 72 Bow which is a 48" long tank. For starters it fits in my canopy with a little room on each side. And plenty room in the front which is great considering that it's a Bow. The way that the Photon 48 is set up it doesn't have any LEDs right in the middle so the support on the middle of the tank isn't blocking anything. I believe that you would have that issue with the Photon 32. And as far as the cost, it's $50 more. Which can be a lot of money to some people (myself included) but it's worth it. Personally speaking from my experience with the Photon 48, I think that it would be perfect for a 55. Plus if you ever upgraded to a bigger 48" tank, you could use the fixture. You should be able to get away with 90* Optics and running the channels at a max of 60%-70%. Like I said. I have a 72 Box and run them at 100%. If I had a complaint with the Photon 48, it would be that I run them at 100%. I really wanted something that I would be able to run at say a peak of 60%. But maybe I can. I'm just going off of eye, I really need a PAR Meter to be 100% certain!

Anyhow, I know that some of you have seen it but for those interested in the Photon 48 I started a thread of my experience with it. Feel free to check it out or add to it.

Jason, I'm glad you love your 48" led fixture. And you can disagree with me all you want, after all, it's only my opinion... and a bit of physics. You see, I have a 72" tank and two IT2080 which are the same as the RB Photon32. So I have 64" of light and a 72" long tank, which means my fixtures are 2"-4" from the end of the tank (yours are closer). And I have more than enough light at the ends of my tank and even some that spills out the ends (which is wasted light). I understand you are happy with your 48", I'm just saying that having leds at the edge of the tank isn't the most effective use of the available light. A bit less than half of the light from the last 2 or 3 rows is spilling out of the end of the tank lighting the floor. The light with 90 degree lenses comes down like /\ and with the edge of the tank there it's like this: outside /|\ inside. Half the light is wasted. It's not a big deal if you have enough (or excess), but most people are trying to get by with the minimum and keeping as much light as possible inside the tank.

Again, I'm glad you love your Photon48. And I'm not saying there is anything wrong with using a 48" light on a 48" tank. I'm just saying it's a bit more than you really need. EverGrow builds very good quality fixtures and sells them at very reasonable prices. I own 6 of them.

I appreciate your opinion and your lesson in physics but I'd hate to break the news to you but your wrong. Since I have a 48" tank and a Photon 48 I will speak of FACT. I have NO light being wasted by in coming out of the ends of my tank because it doesn't. Maybe because I have a canopy, maybe because I have the fixture about 4" off of the water maybe it's because the last row of LEDs isn't actually at the very end but instead about 3" in. Who knows? It's seems to defy all physics! I just know that the floor around my tank is not glowing from any excessive lighting issue. And again....this is fact not speculation. Why? Because I own the set up that I'm talking about.

I'm not trying to be rude but I think that it's wrong for someone to speak so strongly without actually firsthand knowledge to back it. Especially when it has to do with someone else's money.

Here is the latest picture of my tank so you can see how it's lit.

And.......the PROOF:

This was taken with ever light in the area of the tank off and both channels of the fixture at 100%.

Just want to chime in that I'm really enjoying my IT 2080s that I have above my 300. I COULD add a 2040 in the middle to make the whole tank bright but I like having a back edge that is a bit dimmer and give my guys a place they can get away from the neighborhood kids. Not a very dim edge anyway, it's plenty bright for a FOWLR.

I had the white led's go out on two of my D120 units. Could it be the driver? Not sure what the problem is

When I was modifying my lights I turned on my whites and they didn't light up. I fixed the bad connection and they all lit up. It could be a driver that went out or an led on your lights. If you have a meter it is easy to test.

I just bought (4 days old ) the IT2080 Controllable Full Spectrum LED (32" Light) and noticed if I lose power when it returns, the lights doesn't revert back to what I have programmed. Instead it will go back to default. Sucks because I have my lights setup between 10:30-23:30 so I can enjoy my aqaurium with lights on a higher setting in the evening.

I saw someone having trouble with an issue like this before on the a forum, they were not saving their settings. So make sure that your doing that.

I have a Reef Breeders Photon 48 that is controllable. Due to the fact that I'm lazy and I don't have much time because of my little ones, I just went with the default setting. But since it's more convenient for me to do things later in the day or when the light would start to dim, I set the clock on the controls 2 hours off of normal time.

I hope that one of these two suggestions will help.

I tried to save both ways...I programmed it than previewed, than saved. Same issue.
Tried programming it and after every time setting, saved than previewed again and saved again, and same issue.

Maybe you need to exchange it. I'm not sure.

But first does it have a time in it? If so, just do what I did and use the default settings and change the time so it's X hours from the actual time. Know what I mean?

I could do that but I'm using someone's (can't remember who) excel light program which I really like and prefer over default. Guess I need to contact the vendor.

That's what I'm looking for again. I did save it to my desktop. I can send it to you so you can check it out.
