chloromine on Long Island, Do we need to use chloromine filters for RO/DI systems?

I think it can remove some, but I thought it was harder on the mebranes and the carbon causing them to exhaust quicker, filterguys sells an upgrade for chloromine, was wondering if it was worth it.

Last year, I spoke to the water municipality in Mineola and they are not currently using chloramine in the water system BUT it is on their agenda with no firm target date.

Chloramine will kill your membrane really quickly if you don't setup the prefilter stages for it.

Chloramine won't typically damage the membrane.

If you'll tell me the name of your water utility I'll look to see if they use chloramines.

Russ,
I moved out of NY last year so no clue on the water utility from the previous town.

Guys from Aquariumfilters.com told me that chloramine would damage your membrane much quicker if you don't set up their dual "chloramine Blaster" cartridges ahead of the membrane

Larry - looked at their 2007 report - looks like they use chlorine, not chloramines.

Likewise - chlorine only.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that chlorine + ammonia = chloramine.

thanks buckeye

I think thats right dgen, I think thats why they tell you to test the water for ammonia as a way to see if it was treated with chloromine
