Choati Wrasse - Difficult or Not?

Female

This is the pair from LA DD. I just released these two into my reef last night. So far so good...for the most part. The female ate PE Mysis immediately this morning. No such luck with the male. They are large so I need to get him eating soon. They are encountering absolutely no attention from any of the tank mates...all very mellow. This may be the mellowist introduction of fish into my reef ever. I beefed up my rock stash in the sump so more space for extra pods to hang and get back into the system. These two should wipe it out quick. I already feed multiple times a day for my butterfly so if they both start eating well I am hopeful. They are both super healthy looking and beefy so DD conditioned them well :D.

Steve, thanks for some more ideas. I fed blackworms early in the morning and I couldn't tell if either of them ate the blackworms. I also threw in some pellets, you never know, they may stumble across some and like them as they are foraging around. Time will tell. I'm past the 24 hr. mark :).

good luck! They are beautiful!

Live adult brine shrimp (fortified with Selcon) is another way to entice eating...actually, I have found that to be the easiest way...not necessarily the most nutritious, however...short term better to eat, then no.

You know, I'm looking at my previous photos and I'm thinking those are the same fish...LOL. I must have caught the same one in both shots but thought they were different. Too funny. So...I think that is the male in both shots. I'll confirm tomorrow when the lights come back on.

Well I have hit the 1 month mark with mine (knock on wood) and so far so good. It eats like a pig and even loves pellets.

ReefBum, Glad to hear of your success. I have almost hit the month mark with my pair...difficult feeders for sure. The female has gotten quite skinny but she is now taking live blood worms. That is all either of them will eat other than hunting. I have tried a ton of stuff...I just got some pellets so that is my next attempt. The male is staying pretty plump as I feed the blood worms up to 7-8 times per day in small quantities. Time will tell.

Ladd?

Ladd?

A few of you mentioned LADD as a good source for buying fish. Can you send me a link to their website?? Thanks. Also, can you let me know where you get you black worms from? Are they frozen or alive??Thanks so much.

Thanks Fishnerd. I have bought from them in the past and have been happy with my purchaces. Did you grow up in Lompoc?

My wife and I are not originally from Lompoc but her family is still there. Sunset cattle company and Sunset auto center are my in-laws.

Bryan, I will take a little vid in the next few weeks and post it here of the Chaotis and other little fishies I have. The Chaoti pair is doing well, the big guy and his little lady have hit the 4 month mark in my tank. I feed from 3-4 times a day during the week and up to 6-8 times a day on the weekend. This works for them and they seem to be quite healthy and happy. They forage about as well.

I have a trio that is eating frozen mysis, plankton, spirinula brine. All 3 are also eating flakes and dried foods! Mine are about 4 months old now. I introduced them all together as a trio and there is no aggression between them at all!

They get along well with every other wrasse, don't get hassled and don't hassle others.
