ANFPO- please elaborate. i dont understand your suggestion. I have always known the washer be on the other side of the nut.

The important part is to have a nice flat sandwich of rubber between the shoulder of the bulkhead and the wall of the tank, whether the wall is on the outside or inside relatively to the shoulder.

Its perfectly fine for the gasket to end up on the dry side. Actually preferred, that's why they get stiffed when installed saltwater side.

Got it, and re raed you original post, and we agree. Opposite side of Nut. I got confused with the words "flange" and "shoulder".

I finished the plumbing and staining. Right now the tank is filled with water and has no leaks if it stays like that for a few days ill drain it and transfer it over to my place to get it going. If my current tank is exactly where I want my new tank how long do I have to wait before I transfer everything If I am not going to add any new live rock just dry rock? Ill try to post pics of everything as soon as I can.

Here's a pic of the tank full of water and running with no leaks. Did my last coat of paint today and plan to do the clear sometime this week. I still need to know how long until I can transfer everything from the old tank intimate new one?

i would add the rocks and something to seed them with and let it cycle. i just kinda did the same thing, if you aren't going bare bottom use new sand. you can use some of the bacteria bottles to help, just do some searches on them as some i guess don't work as well.

Coming along nice. Just gonna throw this out there, since I remember odd things. To get the best performance out of mag pumps, they do best with oversized plumbing. Don't know why. May want to read the instructions and suggestions from the manufacturer. I wanna say they run best with 1 1/4" pipe. Why in Gods name you would do that, I do not know?!?!? Keep the updates coming!

The washer can be outside or inside depending on which direction you place the bulkhead. What you need to know is that THE RUBBER WASHER GOES ON THE SIDE OF THE FLANGE (SHOULDER) of the bulkhead. NOT on the side of the nut.

This is what I've always been told.

Are you going to reuse your sand and rocks? If you have new sand and rocks. I'd go ahead and start cycling the new tank.

I've heard not to reuse the sand. I will be using my old rock as well as new dry rock. I have a barnacle that nothing is growing on I can throw in the new tank to start seeding.

Here's a picture after the second coat of stain and two coats of satin clear.

Finally have the tank and stank at my place. On Thursday I'll see if I'm up for making the many trips to get the water :D

Generally most people don't reuse their sand because it can be full of nastiness and easier to just use new sand. The sand from my 65 was the worst. It had been in the tank for several years. I've reused sand before after bleaching and rinsing it well in my mothers 40 breeder without any issues.

You can however take a scoop off the top level and use it to help seed your new sand.

I ended up buying new bags of live sand. If it doesn't end up being enough then I'll probably throw in some dry sand.

Water and sand.....check.

Overflow box ended up snapping but it happens. As long as everything still works and I have no leaks.

The tank has cleared up quite a bit but still cloudy. Also my led lights came in!!!! :D:D:sly: I ordered them get led zeal due to all the great things I read about it on the forums. I just need my tank to finish cycling and I can transfer everything over. So far I LOVE how everything is coming along. I want to tank everyone again for all the help and advice it's awesome being a part of a community that looks out for others to help them succede!!

This is what it look like with everything to 100% still need to program it to my liking.

I ran into my first problem when I went to change water yesterday. I took out 5gal and that was enough water to let air get into the pump. If I lower the drain I assume that would fix the problem or I can shut the pump off, do my water change and the turn the pump back on. I plan on doing 15gal water changes.

Chris unless you have a huge sump you will always need to to turn off the return pump. Make sure your sump can handle the amount of water that will flow down into the sump. Your choice then will be to either remove water from the sump or the DT. I remove 15 gallons of water on mine from the DT and then replace it back into it. There should be no guessing if you use 5 gallon bucks. I remove three filled buckets and then pour my new water into the bucks and pump back into the tank.

Chris- thats not a 'problem" but part of you becoming more familiar with your set up. Gillguy has good suggestions to remedy this. You will just need to learn what you can and what you cant do with your tank.

That was one of the first things I made sure of when I did my plumbing, I was afraid of what would happen during a power outage so I have plenty of sump to hold water. I do use 5gal buckets, I will have to do the same as you and put water back into the DT, I was thinking of purchasing a small pump to add the water back in the tank so that I dont have to pour the water back in that way nothing gets disturbed as much.

Yes, most of us use a pump to put the new water back into the tank. To take water out of the DT you can just siphon it out. Gravity works great. However, it's hard to siphon from the sump. If that's where you want to remove the water then just use a small pump. Don't be afraid to ask questions, we have all been there and we all still ask each other for help.
