Chromis pix

How big is your tank and how many did you have?

I don't see a trace of this behavior in my system. They "play nice" when it's feeding time and totally ignore each other.
3 in a 92G, went fine for a year plus, then it became two against one, and I removed the 3rd. Then it was one on one and the bigger pushed the smaller into the corner until it eventually disappeared, assume died and was eaten.

gonna need a faster shutter for closer Chromis pix!

these guys really sparkle when sunlight hits 'em

Nice Gary!

After a few days do you still have the same amount you started with?

Are they playing nice?

so far

so far

I've introduced 14 greens and 13 yellowtail Chromis.
One tiny green immediately became sushi at the hands of my MP60.
The 13 remaining greens are doing great... so far :)
The yellowtails... what a different story!
These yellowtails are among the hardiest of marine aquarium fish IME yet out of 13 introduced 10 are already gone. I have 3 left after one week. I'm surprised. I also lost a juvenile engineer goby. Go figure.
What can be gleaned from all of this?

Chit happens.

Wow!!! Did the yellow tails cull ea. other out or were their demise caused by another culprit?
they just never acclimated. I don't have an explanation. They hid in the rockwork from the moment they went into my aquarium despite the fact that they were larger than the greens and just as numerous.

So if I understand correctly, you lost 12 fish in one week---all unaccounted for. Not even a single carcass??? Did that have any affect on the rest of your tank??? That seems like a lot of additional load on the system. Were you concerned about disrupting your tank's balance??? Or does this type of event have a negligible impact on your system due to its size. Skimmate cruddier??? Or are your regular inhabitants are just a little plumper???

good questions

good questions

I saw some of the dead fish before they were eaten. Bodies don't last very long in my aquarium!

My Striatus Tang's turds are larger than a small Chromis. Suffice to say that my aquarium could easily have handled if all these Chromis had died.

The amount of food that goes into my aquarium every day weighs more than these Chromis :)

Junior wolfs down 2 or 3 broccoli florets in addition to the frozen food chunks he gets every evening.

And they're ALWAYS hungry for more food. ALWAYS.

the outcome

the outcome

despite heavy feedings and my best attention I'm now down to 2 Green Chromis and two of the little Yellowtails.

Spawning pairs.

This always happens.

i was left with just half of the dozen greens that i put in from this spring. i want to get another variety but i think i will leave well enough alone for now.

So far, I am having good luck with mine. I bought 4 about 6 months ago from LA, and then added another 4 about 2 months ago. I still have them all, but its hard to count when they keep moving.
