So one LFS received several pairs of Chrysopterus clowns last night. I saw them today. They are labeled as clarki...but so are all the other yellow/brown clowns in the store  Anyways, they are definitely chrysopterus. Three pairs. One pair looks good. Erect dorsal fins, eating. $70.

I have a Q/T system running, but I still didn't get them. I just have no experience with brook, except what I've read here, which includes the idea that chrysopterus clowns WILL get brook.

Am I being a total whimp here? Convince me one way or the other...

It's called prudence. If you're not set up to deal with something that may well happen, you're not ready. Suggest you google: disease fish marine and several variants, also "brook clownfish"
and study up. They might still be there after you've done so.

OK, so formalin is my friend from what I am gathering. Some conflicting info though. Dip: 1 mL/gallon or 250 ppm formalin in tank water for 45 to 60 minutes MAX. This is for already infested fish, yes? Not prophylactic? And this is not a good idea on freshly moved fish. How fresh? They came into the LFS last night.

Three dips, one every other day, with aeration and a heater and small power head. This all seems doable. Any other pointers?

If they will hold them for a couple weeks, that's the route I would take. But if not, I would use the formalin bath as a preventative, especially with chrys. So I wouldn't wait, by the time you see symptoms it's probably to late. Looks good, although, I don't know how necessary the heater and power head are in the bath, the aeration should be enough... http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=938648&highlight=formalin

There is another line of thought using copper safe/maracyn. If interested I can find the info for you. Found it... http://rareclownfish.com/forums/showthread.php?t=74

Good luck, btw, yellow or white tails?

They will not hold them without a deposit I'm sure. Regardless, wouldn't they be better off in my QT than their main system with all those other fish?

Thanks, yes, that first link is the thread I was referring to, vs. what I read here: http://www.marineaquariumadvice.com/formaldehyde_friend_or_foe.html

They are yellow tail. Incidentally, has anyone had their chrysopterus keep their color over time, ie not turn dark/muddy?

Oh, definitely better with you. Just offering an alternative over spending $70 (which is a nice price for a pair of chrys) on clowns that are so disease prone. You know you're hooked when you don't think twice about it. :)

Here's a pic of a pair of beautiful yellow tails...

Yup, that's them..though the ones at the store have tiny remnants of white on top of the tail base.

OK, well, if they are still there tomorrow and looking good, I'll pick them up along with some formalin...

No A, those are the ones that were sent to you.

And should I ask how they are doing?

total wuss! jk

Well, I guess you are right since I didn't buy them :)

One pair was already gone...possible bought by a customer, though I'd be surprised since the pair I wanted looked best yesterday. The other pair wasn't long for this world. And the pair I wanted had clamped fins. The place actually does have hospital tanks so I told the guy and he said he'd put them in this evening. He seemed quite knowledgable about the whole thing...brook, clowns, so we'll see.

Anyways, thanks for the help guys.
