I was in my LFS on 6/21/13 saw a Mag that looked sick and bleached. Talked to the owner picked it up for next to nothing. Brought him home and set him up in my Hospital tank. He was doing the Inflate deflate cycle of death.

The hospital tank is set up like OrionN's tank. PH and Heater are blocked off by egg create. I also have a small HOB filter running for some added flow along with a pack of purgien.

6/21/13 Here he is after acclimation I could only run the air stones for circulation as he was very weak and didn't have a strong grip

6/25/13 Began treating 250mg Ciprofloxacin on 6/23/13 50% water change and 250 mg every night.

Still been doing the Inflate deflate cycle of death, but its less and less. Mag still has been pooping out black chunks.

6/29/13 Mag has been looking a lot better hasn't been doing the Inflate deflate cycle of death very much but is still pooping tiny tiny bits of black.

Hard to see in the pictures but Mag is starting to get a brown gold color on the tips and some of his tentacles.

7/1/13 I felt the Par 38 LED lighting wasn't strong enough for him anymore so I switched out the light to Metal halide. Seems to be absolutely loving it. Mag no longer is popping anything black and for the most part is staying totally inflated. A few tentacles here and there but not totally.

I really hope the Mag pulls through seems to be getting his color back. Hopefully this week he will eat some food. Time can only tell I will keep this post updated.

Maybe I'm wrong here but don't think you need or want that purigen in there... Minh can confirm, but just a simple powerhead, heater, and medication is all that is needed...

Good luck, and looks much better so far.

Looking good!
I wouldn't put any purigen in the QT if it was me it may absorb some of the medication.

Agreed, no purigen. Water quality is maintained thru no feeding and daily 50% water changes. BTW, though bleached, looks to me like a really nice red base. I'm jealous, been looking for one like this for ages. Good score!

I was worried about that a little bit but it seems to be helping more then its hurting.

In the beginning I was having to do 2 water changes a day as he was creating so much waste.

Since I've added small bag of Purigen seems to help keep the water quality better between water changes but thats mostly due to the mag becoming healthier!

My only concern would be the unintended consequences of what might be in purigen extracting medication, or inserting other stuff you do not want in such a controlled environment.. Either way, good luck and keep us posted.

Nem looks good. I've had one recover from comparable bleaching, just be careful about too much light.

Can you show us a recent picture please.

So, are you keeping it or treating and returning to the LFS? If the latter, and depending where you are in PA I'd take it?

Not really sure what my plans are for the Mag its going to be awhile before hes back to 100% health really.

Plans are for now to add him to my 30gal QT tank with live rock for a few months. Daily water changes are starting to wear on me lol. Might move him later today. He really needs to eat now that his stop inflating deflating. My plans are to try and feed him the morning or night before I move him hopefully give him some extra strength for the move.

As long as water quality is the same i would move him let him inflate then feed less stress that way

The Mag seems to be doing really well I stopped Cipro on thursday. I asked my Fiancé to feed the Anemones on saturday before I could say not that one she fed the mag piece of fresh garlic soaked scallop. Well I guess he was hungry cause he ate it! Been keeping an extra careful eye on the water quality as he's still in the hospital tank. Here are some updated pictures I just took tonight before the lights turned off.

Mag is most definitely doing better I wish I had taken a picture of him at the LFS when looked totally dead for a comparison.

You can see some of his color is slowly coming back and his mouth is staying closed. Fingers crossed I think I might have saved this one!
