My friend Randy Olsen, Owner of a LFS here in SLC was one of the divers with Rufus on this trip to Tahiti. They started putting together this trip about 6 weeks ago in hopes of catching a few Peppermint angels. There were five of them, and just happened to stumble upon the Narcosis angels. And as a matter of fact, they almost left the wrasses back in Tahiti and weren't going to ship them, they were going to let them go. They had no idea what species they had. They ended up catching a very small juvenile peppermint angel, but it did not make it to Oahu alive. Kogi met them there at The Waikiki aquarium when they landed and took the fish on concignment from Rufus and the others.
This morning when I saw the article on Reef Builders, I called Randy and told him they had collected a very rare pair of fairy wrasses. He laughed and said, " and to think, we almost left them behind" He told me they collected them at a depth of around 350ft. Once they caught the rare fish, they had built a storage bin and Randy had a chiller shipped over there and kept the fish at a temp of 68 degrees.
They brought back 6 of the Narcosis angels .
