Ok so I bought a very healthy 4" Gold Crocea clam yesterday, beautiful color, reacted to light, mantled had an awesome spread over the shell. Got it home, acclimatised it as usual and placed it on the sand. It opened up nicely and looked very happy. About 2 hours later I noticed my skunk cleaner shrimp with its claws inside the shell, the clam was clearly not happy with this so ifed the tank to get the cleaners away and only half an hour later again the cleaner was harassing the clam, so I fed the shrimp again. Same thing happened... I have several healthy Maximas in my tank and they have all gone unbothered. Crocea was Dead by morning. :mad2:

It was already dying if your cleaner was attacking it.Shrimp are attracted to the smell of dying tissue.

You know every now and then my cleaner shrimp will try to clean my clams shell and stuff, but its been doing this for over a year now, but im not sure i ever noticed it tring to clean the inside of the clam. Sorry for your lose

I had a very healthy corcea in my first 20 gal. I decided to get a cleaner shrimp and right away it went for the clam. It took me 2 hours to catch that thing I almost had to take the tank apart. The clam has been fine every since (over 2 years). I will never get another cleaner shrimp for that reason.

This doesn't have anything to do with clams. But my cleaner shrimps both attacked 2 of my plate corals. I took them out and the plates have been fine ever since.
