Clam cage?

My adolescent queen angel will be coming out of quarantine in another two weeks or so, and I'm thinking that my clams are likely to end up as the dish du jour. Has anyone ever kept a clam in a translucent "cage", such as in a PVC lattice created out of soda bottles, to protect their clams' vulnerable mantles? I don't mind frustrating the angel, but would hate to lose the clams.

people do that more on a short term thing. i guess you could keep one long term, as long as the clam is getting enough light, and your willing to look at it all the time

I have never have to do that but I hope you have designed something with adequate waterflow because from my experience even the factory made in tank refugiums have poor circulation, water kind of stand still inside. it'll be ideal if you can acquire a mini powerhead to attach to your isolation device.

How about just making a 'cage' out of light diffuser (egg crate). I think the flow would be better and light will pass through, less obstructed.

BTW, your stocking list should be such that everything is compatible (if possible. It's not always 100% that things will get along) I don't think the cage idea is good long term either.

A good idea! I'm going to fool around with a number of plans this weekend.

I did start out with plans for a mini-reef, but I've just ended up with all of these semi-aggressive fish. My first priority is the safety of the clams, of course, and will reluctantly give them away before seeing them come to any harm.
