Clam with a hole

I bought 3 clams this weekend, a small Squamosa & 2 small Maximas. Everyone appeared to be healthy but tonight I noticed a 1 inch hole (which I can see through the siphon hole) on the underside of the squamosa where the two shells would meet (i can see clear theough to the sand. The clam seems healthy but is this normal (it is not gaping & closes normally)? Tank parameters are in line. It is under halides and the clam seems fine other wise. Should I be concerned? I am feeding DT's and I already had a Deresa in this tank that is doing great and has been for a year. Thanks!

The white color inside the clam is where the hole is and the white you see is actually the sand (you can see right through)

Mark,

I've seen this before in my old squamosa.....he had his byssall gland intact, was happy and growing, and once in a while I would see this too...I think it's normal. No worries :)

One of my corceas had the same hole that I noticed after I bought it. I had it 4-5 months now and it seem to heal back up..

I just got a crocea and could see all the way through it too.

I have not had it long enough to tell if it is a problem.
