Clams and Flow Rates ...

I'm getting ready to significantly increase the flow rate in my 180g system with a pair of Eductors off an Iwaki MD100RLT. That being said, will this be too much flow for Clams? Does it depend on where they're located (ie: can they be placed in a lower-flow area?) Or do they really not care how much flow they're getting as long as they're not blown over on their sides?

Also, going BB ... I'm figuring that as long as they're on the rocks, they're okay, but the LFS told me that they need sand to bury their foot in.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

The clams just don't like the mantles wildly flapping about in the current.

You LFS is wrong in that one....Clams don't ever need sand. THey're probably confusing them with certain anemones that require sand to bury their "foot" in.

I think derasa and squamosa like to be on the sand, maximas and croceas like to be in the rockwork.

Also I think maximas and croceas can tolerate a little more flow than the other 2, I think a good SPS flow is okay for the M and C.

I have my clams in very high flow area of my tank and they are growing beautifully.. I have a 4" Ultra Crocea, 6" Ultra Maxima and a 8" teardrop maxima and I have 67x turnover you should be alright if there floppingh around though move them to an area with just a little less flow
