Cleaner wrasse

I would like to keep clams as well so it's good to know that cleaner wrasses don't bother them. Anyone have a contrary experience?

Here is what I can remember they attacked to the death:
1. Garden Eel - I could not believe the level of aggressiveness they had toward this animal. They were obviously much smaller, but they would make runs at the eels head area and "dive bomb" it until the darn thing was dead.

2. Neon Gobies: Same situation, but not as radical as the eel experience, but killed about 3 of these little guys in the matter of 3-4 hours. Very sad...

3. I had a few other things they went after, can't exactly remember, but think it was either a orange spotted blenny or some other goby.

Cleaner wrasses will definitely NOT tolerate other cleaner wrasses. So it is sort of understandable about Neon Gobies. No issues with clams, however.

a model citizen..will clean if asked, but otherwise leaves my fish alone (which is 90% of the time).

Mine too. I have what I believe is a pair, due to the way they act and one has much different coloring especially when they spar off. Mine are from the Phillipines and will eat anything and just keep getting fatter.

Mine is a cleaning machine. He keeps all of my fish happy . Every once in awhile he will take a bite a bit larger than normal and the fish will get after him. That's fun to watch. LOL

IME if they tolerate each other and don't try to kill each other, they are probably a pair ;)

What surprises me is that mine will clean even small fish... not sure why it surprises me, just looks funny :)

I don't think any of us have enough fish to completely sustain a cleaner wrasse. Those of us who have luck with cleaner wrasses do so because they will eat the same foods we feed the rest of our fish.

We love our cleaner wrasse and so do our fish:
