I just bought alot of used stuff and I was wondering what I could use to clean it off. There is some algea and salt creep on it. Any thoughts?

Patriot54,

You should simply clean the aquarium out with hot water. If you like, you can mix in some non-iodized salt to the water which you are cleaning with. I have always found plain hot water to work fine. You may want to use a razor blade to scrape off any algae or coralline algae which you can't remove from the glass with water alone.

For other components just use vinegar. Vinegar is an excellent cleaner and can make a old components like new. Just be sure not to use the vinegar on the actual glass. If you don't have vinegar, you could also use lemon juice, although vinegar works best.

You can soak everything including the tank in plain white vinegar and water from the grocery store. Let it soak overnight and brush
scrape it off and rinse it.

What kind of vinegar and why not on the glass?

nothing wrong with using it on the glass. A razor blade and vinegar and water solution will work the best.
