Clear Schedule 80??

Has anyone tried using clear schedule 80 piping for their reef plumbing? Would this pose any issues?

That's was my next question. Why do most people use sch 80 instead of 40?

There is no need for 80 at all.. Unless to look better..
Its for higher pressure applications (thicker walls).. Even 40 is plenty for the low pressures we deal with..

Most of my plumbing is actually thin wall pvc. Often found marked as "sch20" although I think that is incorrect. Sch40 fittings just because they are so cheap. Sch80 is a waste of $$$ IMO. Any spray paint will hide the white just fine.

I use Sch40 colored piping and Sch 80 fittings. It looks nicer, its a very expensive hobby so not sure why anyone is balking over spending another $100 to make the plumbing look nice.

Regarding the clear pipe - would that eventually just start to grow algae?

I actually used Plasti-Dip on my white PVC and it comes in different colors. It looks great like it came that color. I got a $5.00 can and still had a half can probably.

I was wondering about the algae in the clear pipe due to a fuge light being on in the cabinet.

Plus, isn't the ID on Sch80 smaller, thus presenting more friction to the pump? Dunno, never used it.
