Clownfish are digging a cave!

My Ocellaris Clownfish have been in my aquarium for about a year now and were inseparable from the day they were introduced to the aquarium.

Just recently they have started digging a hole under one of the rocks, and I'm wondering what this means.

Are they getting ready to spawn?

I have read that this is normal behavior, but they have never done it before...it just started recently.

I had a spawning tomato pair and the female would do it, fan the sand with her tail, and she began the behavior before they started spawning.
On the other hand I've got an Ocellaris pair and the female fans the sand and I thought maybe they'd start spawning also but she's been doing it for months with no evidence of eggs. :(
