im not sure exactly who yur refering to but the people whos house ive been to that are no longer allowed to sell here on RC have amazing display tanks and its nothing like u say (buy coral for the frag tank not display).... they may have bought a new coral and took a few frags off it but u better belive there a nice size piece still in the display! from what ive seen anyways

$1.50 gas.......doubtful

i agree with sufunk almost %100. I have seen quite a few people buy something just to frag it and sell it for more.

example. a friend of mine (on FMAS) found a nice zoa colony for $100. Had a good amount of polyps on it. realized it was under priced and decided to frag it into 9 pieces. sells 8 of the pieces for $25 each and kept one piece so he could grow it out and do it gain. I mean come on, almost everyone with a "frag tank" is using it to grow something out, chop it up, keep a small piece, sell the rest, and do it all over again. I agree it may not make you rich but still.
The point of this hobby is like sufunk said, to share and help others. Free frags are great, cheap frags a better. If i have something someone wants out of my tank and i notice its starting to grow out of control, you can have some for FREE... just like when a few weeks ago someone asked for 5-10 polyps of my zoa's i broke off 50. I didnt mean to break off that much but my tank looked better without those extra 50 so i just gave him the whole thing. i could have easily broke that piece down to 5-10 and kept or sold the rest but i didnt. most people on here would have..

Now i'm not saying lets all be one big happy hippie family and share all our frags with anyone and just because you bought some nice piece of organ tort you have to break it off and give a piece to everyone. but don't buy something with the intent of just trying to make more money then what you paid for it.

well, back to the forum topic, people keep saying its getting blown out of proportion, I really dont think it is. This is a healthy discussion on the direction the club wants to take. Nobody is offending anyone and for the most part, people have stayed respectful. There have been good points made for both sides. This is a big decision for the club and it should be discussed until the club is ready to make a final decision. Its not out of proportion if it's a healthy discussion.

As for the selling of frags, I see your point. It is great when people give frags away for free. I would say that many of the people that sell frags do give them away often to their closest friends. But they are not going to give them away to every single person on the forum either.

Like someone said, if you dont like that they are selling the frags, you dont have to buy it. And as far as "for the benefit of the hobby" goes, every fragged coral purchased from a fellow reefer is one less wild caught coral they buy. That to me is the single best way to make sure this hobby stays afloat for years to come. I kind of wish more reefers sold their frags.

As for your forum....thank you for doing that. pretty cool. i think its a great temporary option. But i dont think it settles whether or not FMAS should have its own forum.

This particular thread may be ok but i can count about 4 different mods that have posted in here in the last 2 days saying they are going to keep an eye on us because of numerous anti-RC comments made by FMAS members recently.

Just yesterday or the day before, i saw dgen's name as having posted and was like "dang! mod's never post in here! Whats this about?"

Mods have had to post in here more in the last 2 days than in the last 2 years combined:eek2:

this is some ones PERSONAL site

if they wanted to ban the work FISH they could and nothing you can do about it.
esp because maintaining a site this size takes alot fo time
and thats before they have to deal with the people who think that they have rights on a BB board

This is not anti-RC in any way.

True but there have also been alot of "lets get away from RC and their overly oppressive over editing mods posts. I'm not afraid of the mods and dont really get along with a few of them but i see their point. They do ALOT of work for free so that we can have this site and ALOT of us are not paying members.

If i was in their shoes, some of the comments made about them and RC would annoy the hell out of me if i was working for free to provide these posters with a free forum.

Time to move on guys. Feel free to start another thread discussing getting your own club forum going, but please leave us out of it. There are ways to discuss this without the constant throwing in your distaste for our rules.
