Club money

I was talking to a member and he asked if we had shirts made for the club. I know this subject had been brought up before but it pretty much crashed and burnt with no follow through. As president I literally want to be transparent as possible especially where the club funds are spent. Plus I don't think shirts have ever been produced for this club ever?

So I'm proposing to get some shirts made. We can get a tally of individuals interested in getting a shirt and we can go from there. I think if we can get 10 individuals or more interested we can get the ball rolling. Please let me know your thoughts or ideas. If there is something else you would like to see the funds spent on, voice your opinion. Thanks

I think this is a great idea, I would love to show support for our club when we travel to other clubs events.I think I still have some contacts in the shirt making industry which coukd possibly cut down on the cost. But my vote is yes for shirts

If you want to have T-shirts made and I would buy one. Let's just find out how much they are and if you want one you can buy one. I don't see the value in spending club funds to give everyone a T-shirt,but if the membership wants to spend club funds on T-shirts let's put it to a vote.

I will also not have any issue buying one.. That way I can pay the extra for the larger size I want =).

I guess I wasn't clear. All clubs that created shirts generally used club money and the members bought the shirts at the set price, or extras were used as raffle prizes. The club would get a tally of individuals interested then process an order accordingly. So I had no implications of giving out t-shirts for free on the clubs money LOL. I do feel that it should be a clubs purchase when dealing with club shirts rather than on a individuals dime. I just want to get to the next level as a club rather than stay stagnant. A shirt would at least get more recognition when going to a local fish store or even a swap. Again I'm just throwing it out there and it's up to club members. That's why I set it at 10 individuals, if we don't hit the mark then can the idea.

While I like shirts, I think don't really see how it helps promote us more as a club.

How often would you where your "reefing club" t-shirts out and have that be a conversation starter? Very rare.

The only way Tshirts make sense is when there is a large enough membership where the club uses it as a fundraiser.

In this way, the club funds act as a catalyst to earn the club more money.

Since our clubs main "funds generation" mechanism is the raffle swap and as our membership is still small (10-15 people typical at meetings)... I think the Tshirts would only be useful to make membership feel more cohesive.

(but I think we are already a good bunch as it is!)

Just my thoughts. :)

Ron,

I can see where your coming from. Maybe I'm thinking on a larger scale and following the lead of a MARS, BAR, or NVR (which at one point was a small club). Just trying to spice up the club but I guess if it aint broke don't fix it, LOL.

***On a personal note. I go to swaps and I saw Mike and Colin at the last one. Then you see every freakin club member sporting their clubs shirt LOL. I just thought it would be nice to turn some heads and get some recognition without even saying anything***

So there is that... That is like more a bragging rights thing. :). If that is what we are going for, good idea.

But since my favorite two clubs are BAR and WCR, not sure which one I'd wear where. Hahahaha.

I don't think it would be about bragging rights, it would be about being a club and rockin a kick *** T-shirt.

Its not really bragging. What are we bragging about? Bragging about a small club, I guess? Who brags about a reef club anyways? :lmao: Its about getting noticed and being proud to be members of WCR. Showing other clubs we support them without verbally saying hey we drove from Sonoma county etc...When I see the redding club shirts at the BAR swap I take notice. I generally tell them holy $hit you drove that far! If you feel buying a MARS, BARS or any club shirt give you bragging rights then to each their own. I just thought it was a way of showing support for a club but maybe I'm wrong? Again, I'm here throwing out ideas to better the club rather than staying stagnant. I've never seen any shirts in the existents of this club and thought it would be a great idea.

I would be down to buy a shirt.

I don’t know how the pricing would work out but I think if the club covered the initial cost of the purchase when the members bought their shirts the fund would be refilled with very minimal depletion to club funds. That being said I also really like having a large fund for the purchase of plenty of nice corals for the swap.

I want to rep a WCR shirt!!!!!

I agree with Dragon's comment concerning going to the swaps. I attend a lot of swaps as well and we need to represent our small bada** club;). But we need a sweet design for the shirt.
My brother has a clothing company "Counter Balance Clothing" and I can ask him to design a logo. He could also get us quote on how much it would cost to make the shirts from his screen printer.

The is dea is good and I do agree but all the clubs out there are doing T-shirts ... I think we should be different and do WCR hats instead :D What do you think?

Tom,

You are right! Why follow what other clubs are doing. I prefer the top beanie to be honest. I can imagine it now members getting out of their cars with the beanies on walking into a building. Colin, I think this would be awesome for the frag swaps. We will know at all times where each members at. ha,ha,ha
