CMAS Picnic on August 18!

I do not want to get involved espically in politics..

However, my name was brought up and want to clarify a few things.

We had Dr. Steve presentation round 1 (of many) planned at Sharkys. Everything was paid for by us and the presentation and store were also open to our normal cliente (non CMAS members).

Cmas decided to have their meeting before Steve talked.

This was not a CMAS funded event.

Like I said I do not want to get involved at all but just want to clarify a few facts. I do not want to be tied into this debate and will keep my opinions to myself.

Joe,

For the record, there were folks who had a problem with the January event. They no longer had a say in the way things were run, and their well-meaning advice went unheeded.

I've never thought that our frag swaps should be opened up to stores or basement chop shops. That doesn't make me anti-store, it makes me store-neutral as far as the club was concerned.

The club constitution and bylaws were written to keep the club away from commercial concerns. It keeps us honest and out of trouble. And completely avoids any appearance of conflict of interest.

Was any club member asked to host the picnic at their home?

Regards.
Mike Kirda

Obviously there is some deep seeded problem that you are having that most of us don't know about. I really don't think it's necessary to make derogatory/slanderous comments toward stores that support the club though.

We have normal business hours and are letting CMAS host their meeting with us. All of my non CMAS customers will not be partaking in the food don't worry...

Mike

Can I ask who is paying for the food?

Regards.

Mike, you know who is paying for the food because your wife is the treasurer and is one of seven board members who approved the picnic and the estimated food expenditures. :)

Dark Lord Coral is our generous host for this event and is kindly providing the location for the picnic. If it rains, they will put up their tent, so we don't get wet. They will provide a grill and be part of the event.

Mike, there is nothing in the CMAS bylaws which prevents us from holding our meetings at a club sponsor's location. Just because our host will have their shop inside open while we have our picnic going outside, that is not against our bylaws.

Mike, you have complained about every single CMAS activity that has been held since you exited the board. Well, except for the talk that you gave in March, that is.

Our membership has increased greatly since the new board took over. Our meeting attendance is fine and we have received good reports about every activity.

Instead of bashing us at every turn, why not send some postitive recommendations to us privately, so we can use them to benefit CMAS going forward? Or maybe find a hobby! ;)

BTW Mike, I don't know of any basement chop shops that are sponsors of CMAS and I would ask you to refrain from that type of inflammatory comments!

Boyd :)

Dennis, I meant no bad press on you, Anita or Sharky's. I was mostly pointing out that one of our supporters was gracious enough to let us use their facilities(as well as give away some great raffle prizes) for no extra compensation. I appoligize if it was taken the wrong way.

Does it really matter where the picnic is held? If the picnic was to be held, anywhere. Someone was going to have to foot the bill for the food anyways. Who gives a rip where it is held. I think it is cool that Mike(DLC) offered up his place to hold it. I doubt that CMAS will have to pay anything for the site, just the food. CMAS members get to come hang out with other members, do some shopping at DLC, and DLC gets some business that they may or may not have had on this particular weekend anyways.

Mike(DLC) you are obviously right regarding the problem, I don't care to see it, and I am sure you don't care to either.

One thing is for sure though, if this thread keeps going like it is, it will be closed like the Fragapalooza thread was. Why are we getting threads for events closed. This action was, at one time, reserved for the off topic and vulgar threads that are few and far between now. Lets go ahead and act like adults now people.

I'm wondeering when we are going to have a regular meeting where members can vote their opinions on things. It's like a monarchy around here. This club should be called BMAS.

Hi, Mike.

My deep seeded problem, if it could be called that, is that I care about CMAS, having been a member since darn near the beginning.

When CMAS was formed, the original members knew what they didn't want the club to be. They were particularly clear about commercial ties and the need to keep things separate from the club. All of the readers here should read the club constitution and by-laws and understand what they mean in that context.

As far as I am aware, I made no derogatory or slanderous comments about any stores. I'd be really curious if you could provide a quote.

Regards.

Hmm, where is this "basement chop shop"? Most would think that you are talking about DLC?

Where could one find these "By Laws" or the "Constitution"?

I have no knowledge of Dark Lord Corals operation, have never been there, nor am I aware that I personally know anyone who has been there, so there is no way I could begin to characterize their operation in any fashion whatsoever.

Is that clear enough?

As far as basement chop shops, there have been a number of them that have come and gone over the years. More than one came to frag swaps held at the library over the years, typically without the BOD's foreknowledge. We typically learned of it afterwards when someone complained. I couldn't recall their names anymore.

Mike K, I am sure your voice has been heard. Can we get back to the subject of this thread now? You seem to be a nice guy, and always willing to help. I have no dislike for you, nor do I know what stores you frequent. I just hope in the future that we can all just get along.

Hi, Boyd.

My comments to you and the other board members have been all been in two veins. One, always protect the club's best interests, and two, to avoid even the appearance of conflict of interest by steering the club away from commercial interests. In every case, those comments have been brushed off.

All I want to see is the club board to follow the constitution and bylaws in their duly elected roles. And the bylaw section I cited earlier is very clear and very concise.

The plain interpretation is that Dark Lord Corals cannot sell corals during the time of the picnic.
If that is not acceptable to you as President, then the club should either be dissolved or the constitution and/or bylaws amended to allow it.

Regards.

Maybe if we had a meeting once in a while and discussed and voted on what the club should or shouldn't sponsor, where events are being held and how our money is being spent, these threads wouldn't develop.

It seems that the elected officers and the board members are making decisions and plans without any membership discussion or input.

Why are the elected officers and board members having private meetings? Are there minutes of these meetings?

How can you say meeting attendance is fine, when we've only had one meeting, in January, since the current officers and board took over? Why hasn't there been a formal CMAS meeting since January?
