Are you ready for fun, great food and even some reef talk?

Our 2007 CMAS Picnic will be on Saturday, August 18!

The picnic is free for all CMAS members, so mark your calendars to stop by for some great food, drink, fun and to meet other CMAS members!

Our hosts for this special event are Mike and Elizabeth Kleist of Dark Lord Coral in Brookfield! They’ll be showing off their awesome display tanks for anyone who wants to see some of the rarest corals available anywhere! Plus, they are planning a couple of great raffle items for a few lucky people!

This is a rain or shine event, so don’t let a few sprinkles stop you from coming by. It is also an RSVP event, so let me know you are coming by sending an email to fiberlux@comcast.net

The picnic will be held at 3841 Arthur Avenue in Brookfield. The event will start at 12:00 PM and the food will be served from 1:00 PM- 3:00 PM.

If you want to do a little shopping at the Dark Lord Coral reef store, it will be open until 4:00 PM.

We hope you will join us!

Any questions, please let me know!

Boyd :D

PLEASE RSVP by August 13, so we can get a head-count!

We also ordered a dunk tank where we'll have Boyd on display and all proceeds go to helping the coral reefs. :p

j/k but actually not a bad idea :D

Can I ask who is paying for the food?

Regards.
Mike Kirda

It is a CMAS sponsored picnic, so CMAS will be paying for the food. That is why we need an RSVP so that we know how many are attending and how much food to get. Hope to see you there!

Sara,

Maybe the BOD should read the club by-laws?
Specifically Article III, Section 5.
"Commercial Members shall consist of those individuals holding a financial interest in any phase of the aquarium of tropical fish sales, being either fresh or salt water. Commercial Members may not hold office, regardless of Charter membership affiliation, but they may vote. Commercial Members may not solicit at the General Meetings, or at any other Club sponsored functions."

CMAS will violate the club rules if Dark Lord sells any corals on the 18th as it is, how did you say, 'a CMAS sponsored picnic'.

As much as I'd like to attend, we have prior commitments.

Regards.
Mike Kirda

What about the Frag Swap in January, There were commercial members there. Nobody seemed to have a problem with it. How about the meeting that was held at Sharkys? Nobody had a problem then. I see these events as a way to promote the club as well as the retailers that support the club.

I do not think that non members should be able to come and pertake in CMAS funded food and drink though. Maybe we should have a way for new members to actually sign up at this event?

Joe,

For the record, there were folks who had a problem with the January event. They no longer had a say in the way things were run, and their well-meaning advice went unheeded.

I've never thought that our frag swaps should be opened up to stores or basement chop shops. That doesn't make me anti-store, it makes me store-neutral as far as the club was concerned.

The club constitution and bylaws were written to keep the club away from commercial concerns. It keeps us honest and out of trouble. And completely avoids any appearance of conflict of interest.

Was any club member asked to host the picnic at their home?

Regards.
Mike Kirda

I don't have much say in what the club does. Like I said, I see it from the benefit of the consumer, and hopefully the club. The problem I have is, that this thread is quickly going to end up like the Fragapalooza thread. I said it there and I will say it here, keep these matters private instead of bringing them onto the public forums of Reef Central. Most of the people that read and post here are not even CMAS members.
