hey rog
im looking at setting up a calc reactor, and seeing as i already have 3 tunze controll boxes on my tank i figured whats one more :)

what can you tell me about the co2 kit?

They really are very nice. The newest unit has a touch pad and nice knobs for calibration unlike the flimsy screw driver adjusted trim pots on most models. The unit includes a transformer and solenoid. The solenoid is the best one I know of for saltwater because it is 9V, it is chrome plated and teflon coated. The solenoid connects to a PS2 port on the controller and supplies power to the controller and recieves signal to turn on from the controller. The electrode is glass platinum- the real deal so, that makes it a bit fragile and a bit different from the usual gel electrodes but very accurate. Also the Tunze controller reads to the hundreth place so you can get a very accurate control. We changed electrodes recently and the new ones are much more sturdy, the platinum oxide is a wire rather than a capsule and the capsule tended to rupture and fail. I would expect the electrode to last 2-3 years if it is properly treated. You can use any BNC electrode you like and we do offer gel one for commercial use where a more rugged instrument is required.

what are they running now? and is there a lead time?
and what is the replacement cost of the electrode?

one more, when you use the tunze controller, do you basically not need to buy a co2 valve kit? inotherwords, it replaces botht he co2 valves as well as the controller?

You need a regulator and ours works the best with it in my opinion. They are not cheap unfortunately

CO2 Controller 7074/2 -$363.00
Regulator 7077/2 -$76.98

All the Co2 line, check valves, etc is included, if you have more than 20 ft of distance to go you will want to buy extra as the regulator uses a John Guest style fitting but it is nickel coated brass. It only works with the metric sized airline, the other stuff is just a hair too small. The regulators and controllers are in stock.

thats not too far out of line actually. the reef fanatic controller is 170 and a deasent sent of guages is 150 as well. we're only talking about 100 bucks fer the name :)
personally, i think i shoudld get a break for having an all tunze tank :) :)
is this somthing you would sell direct or via preuss? at that price i'd just as soon buy from a vendor that gives free shipping and no tax ;)

I don't sell direct but perhaps Rick could give you a loyal customer discount.

hey Roger
just a panic thought.
are all the fitting on this metric?
im getting a reactor from myreefcreations. will i need to have any modify somthing, or is there an adaptor i will need to connect to that reactor?

thanks

There is no real difference between metric and standard airline, the barbs fit the same. In this case it only makes a difference because the John guest style fittings have to have an exact fit and the hair difference between standard and metric prevents a good fit. But, as far as slipping over a nipple on a reactor, it will make no difference.

oh good :)
i just placed the order thought PA to go along with a group of other stuff i had coming for both the co2 regulator and the co2 kit.

Yes,I need to call up the UPS software at work tomorrow. I will do it before noon.

So, was it worth it? I personally like th CO2 controller quite a bit and think it is worth the extra money. It looks nice too. I just wish they would back light the display but they tell me that adds about $40 to it.

you should just tell them that people who understand are in for a penny, in for a # with tunze stuff :)
i snapped a few pics to add to the website. im tyring to figure out the best way to put the controls in the stand. im thinking of building some small acryllic boxes to put around the drivers for the pumps. in such a confined space, its going to be really hard to prevent splashing etc.

They make these really cool waterproof clear cover boxes in Europe, I will see if I can pick one up for you if you like. They aren't cheap but all the wire grommets are waterproof, Tunze custom makes waterproof units for zoos and the like but it adds substantial cost. They actually make a Stream where all the controls are waterproof and the foodtimer can be actuated by a waterproof button. I think it adds about $150. IIRC just the box that would be big enough to hold your controllers is about $80. The old 7072 pH controller was waterproof, it is still one of my favorites because it had all sorts of alarms and high/ low settings but they were about $400 20 years ago. I have repaired a couple of these and they are really cool.

i'd be interested in seeing one, but im not sure it'd be worth the money for 'just a box' even if it is a tunze box :)

i need to find a source locally for weldon, and get some experience using my new dremmel roto tool :)

i've been doing some pricing, dont know if you remember that i'm going to england in may, and im already planning on bring back 2 L of rowaphos. its Way cheaper over there.

The waterproof boxes aren't made by Tunze and you could probably get it at a pond or garden center in England. Speaking of roto tools- you have got to check out Proxxon- when your Dremel burns out and it will- I've been through three. Check out the Proxxon line. They use the same bits, same basic style but it is DC and the speed is really neatly adjustable and they don't cost much more than a Dremel. Woodcraft carries them. The big advantage I see is when you over load the motor a circuit breaker shuts it down, it seems indestructible. I have only had mine for a few months but I also have the optional micro drill with the drill and tap set and I got the deluxe power station to run 3 tools. It is great for me because I can cut a piece of plastic and then grab the other tool and drill and tap it.
