Coal region fish stores?

I moved from State College to Tamaqua a couple weeks ago, and I was just curious to know if there were any good fish stores around besides going to allentown or northhamptin. Does Pottsville or frackville have anything worthwhile?

Welcome to the area!

Nope nothing really close! The best we have is a small pet store in Fairlane Village Mall. He'll special order fish for you but supplies are really lacking. I think the name of the place is Puppy Love. They have a nice display tank.

We do have Reef and Tails in Reading. Mal has a very good basement operation. He is open on Sunday afternoons from 1-5. Great prices on supplies and a good selection of fish for a small operation.

Thanks for the welcome carl. I work real close to Pottsville in the highridge industrial park. I think its really minersville, but Lowes calls it Pottsville.

Your signature says 180 deep reef/rubble zone. Got any full tank shots? Do you just have rubble on the bottom for substrate? That would be a cleaning nightmare!

From left to right down the center of the tank is stacked Marshall. Along the left side and across the front is Tonga branch that is stacked about 6"10" high. The Marshall provides all the caves and quick retreats the anthias need and the branch lets the multibar angel and Wetmorella sp. wrasse feel comfortable.
I'll see if I have some descent pics to post when I get home tonight.

What ever happened to the big reef place that used to be located in Emmaus years ago? He advertised heavily in the trade magazines. (This might be before many people here started up a reef aquarium!)

That was before my time in the hobby. The only two places I know of in that area is Something Fishy and Shear Heaven.

Gary;

that used to be an awesome place. I used to go there anytime I was within an hour from him. Between him and Tropical Paradise in East Stroudsburg, I spent a lot of time in my early reefing days making long road trips.

I had heard that he closed several years ago.

Ah... Tropical marine paradise.... That was the only place I purchased from for many years when Ed and Cindy had it. In fact the current All-Glass 90 I have came from them. It was a great store for fresh or salt water needs.

Last I spoke with them they were moving their Sea-Swirl business out of the area. Great folks, hope their still doing well.

Yes, they were the "good ole' days"........Although we miss the store and our customers (many who became friends)....Ed and I are still around. Making Sea Swirl's in South Carolina and doing fine. Thanks for thinking about us !

Cindy:

Do you remember the name of the guy and store in Emmaus. I am guessing Mike was his name, but I am drawing a total blank on the name.

It was World of Aquatics. He cleared out the store and turned it into a gym. That was over 10 years ago.

Cindy Swirl, I hear you won't be joining us at MACNA? :eek1: :eek1:

That's correct. I am hosting 5 of my girlfriends from around the country in celebrating our 50TH this year :-0
So it will be almost like MACNA !!
Have fun though....and I guess that we will be seeing Donnie in Myrtle Beach later in Sept.

it sounds like a talk you hear at Bingo night here. You old reefers lol .. dust coming out of my computer screen as I am reading this lol . Sanjay forgot to mention where he got his acan from for less than $40 .

this may not be the area you are looking for ,but the pet zone in pittston has some real nice corals right now.bright colored zoos and mushrooms.i picked up some eagle eyes that are the brightest color i have seen.

I appreciate the heads up Dan. How far is that from tamaqua? How far are you from Tamaqua, too. I would love to get up your way and check out what you have going on.

Sanjay,
His name was Mike and his business partner's name was Mr. Lee (don't remember his first name, he was actually my science teacher in school). They were very nice guys. Mike was more into reptiles. Mr Lee was the guy that got me into my first saltwater tank, uhm a longgg time ago. He actually started out in his basement. Hmm, around 1982.
