Come Give Us Your Opinion!

Maybe a presentation on the workings of a calcium reactor, & the theory behind it.
Some of us dose calcium, magnesium, & buffer to maintain the proper levels. At some point in time the daily requirements become tougher to maintain, enter the calcium reactor. The main thing that makes me nervous with a reactor is the C02 bottle & an accurate regulator.

Just a thought,
Ray

I think these are all really good ideas and im pleased to see an enthusiastic response.....but ---since im a party pooper and have to be the one to bring these things up----lets try and keep the ideas reasonable and something we can do inside the meetings or at a house.

For example....the sump we talked about above, we could only manage to make a small one in a few hours. That would not involve the cutting, testing etc that is part of that process. If we wanted to include all those aspects it would really be too much. (i think that was what you were saying above, wasnt it Nick). Of more importance in that scenario is how to get good joints, and that would be the main focus of that demonstration. A skimmer would take days to make, unlessit was one of the simpler counter currents.....(ow i do have a counter current skimmer design that does only take an hour to make....)

Im not rtrying to dampen enthusiasm, but trying to keep things to a level that we can actually do something. Please keep the ideas coming. It may be that if there is enough interest in a single large project we could do a long session somewhere-maybe at a house.

Anyways, keep the ideas coming and lets get several "diy/demo" nights planned for 2007.

Brook, thanks for working on this.

Paul.

I just want to stress, I wasnt trying to quash anyones ideas here, just make sure we do the best we can with what time and resources we have.

I definitely think we should do the DIY nightlights again

I know I'm not a member yet, but what about

- How to mix the DIY 2 part buffers (i.e. Randy's formula)
- The benefits of an ATO system and how to DIY
- What's the "miracle grow" evident in some people's tank with coral growth that's not in other's tanks?
- Pros and cons of different macro algaes
- Different aspects of flow and it's importance

Anyway, just some ideas off the top of my head that are fairly simple. Some are doable with demonstration others would just be presentation.

That was what I was looking for Paul is making good joints and installing the baffles inside the box and using weld-on on them.

I thought so, that would have many more benefits if we concentrate on areas rather than trying to rush a project.

---as a small acrylic type project.....how about making a fish trap?

Paul.

What ever on the Acrylic part, flat peices only, cutting tubes and flanges is way to time consuming. Also Acrylic is better done at someones house, this way I can do some flush cutting.

Paul W, I could put together a 30 x 13 x 15 sump in about 3 hours, it would be layed out Refugium, Return, Intake Skimmer and would fit under most tanks. This would be a total build, including 3 divider/baffles. Assuming all material is precut ready to go. The cost would be only the materials.

Come on now! Don't lose steam! We were getting some great suggestions to use. We need to know where the interests lie. Perhaps if you like one already stated, post that you do so we know how many people are for what..

Well? Get goin!!
:D

I already threw out all my ideas that are of relative ease, I agree someone already brought it up but I would be interested in some ideas of making a calcium reactor and other topics dealing with it. The led night light would be cool with that topic though are we planning on using the same parts as last year or do we want to try to make our own setup as far as buying individual leds and clustering them how we want. I could help with that, I know of some great places to get LEDs I just need some time before hand to contact some of the suppliers.

I will happily talk about Ca Reactors, how to set one up, what it does, what it doesnt do, how to regulate etc.

Brook Chris Sign me up for a meeting slot sometime in 2007,

paul.

included in that talk I can also chat about the 2 or 3 part DIY supplements available and where to get supplies. Add a bulk purchase order in there as well for anyone wanting to make the additives.....

---the making of a good meeting, once again.
